Lost Lady

The Lost Lady Tavern was named after the local myth of the mermaid Halia and the Human Ery; One day a great storm unexpectedly came to Boralus. Ery and the handful of hydromancer who were present gathered in small boats at the river's mouth to divert the water. The mages faltered one by one until only Ery was left. Halia began constructing a seawall at the bottom of the harbor while Ery continued holding back the water. The hydromancer eventually collapsed from exhaustion and fell into the water. Without her power to hold them back, the waves crashed into the seawall, but it held steady. Halia saved her beloved's life by slitting her feet and jumping with her into the harbor, prompting the Mother to turn her into a mermaid.

Staff and Patrons

The Lost Lady is owned and managed by Fred Stammers, an orphan at birth, who took his surname from his noticeable speech impediment. He has cropped black hair and a short, trimmed beard. He keeps a comb behind his left ear, and can often be seen behind the bar, leaning into a silver-tray and dragging the comb through his hair.
He is married to Lucinda, a half-orc woman, who flits between the kitchen and tables, armed with a broom and a number of washcloths. She has sepia coloured tusks, and woven-gold braids which are tied up in a bun. She is an exceptional singer, and the only person who Fred allows on stage without an express invitation.
They have two sons, Rogal and Flanders, age 14 and 16, who have grown up inside the walls of the inn, and can turn their hand to any task which needs doing.
Rogal has his mother’s face, and two short tusks that he tries his best to hide. He dreams of adventure on the open road, and will often give free drinks and his company to any band of travelling folk who allow him the escape of a retold feat.
Flanders is small of stature, but he has music in his eyes, and likes nothing more than to take the stage at the end of the night, and sing of his unrequited love for the latest boy who has stolen his heart. He has a thick, square jaw and short, black hair, that bursts into curls as it reaches his ears.

Patrons

Christopher Pallus is a short, stubby man with thinning, grey hair, and a bulbous nose with more blackheads than a mushroom field. He likes to sit at the bar and hum along to the music, but likes it even more when there are games of chance to be played. He used to be a wealthy merchant, but lost it all in a game of Advantage.
Tanner Williams is a well-dressed man of some local-renown. He is a huge fan of the arts, and is a favourite of most travelling performers, as he is keen to lavish his patronage upon all those of skill and talent. He has heather-red hair, and a deep, knowing tone to his voice. He makes his fortune in the buying and selling of ore, a business he inherited from his uncle.

Games

The Bard's Challenge

Any Bard may speak to Fred, and ask that they are allowed to take the stage in order to win their meal and rest. Yet, not every performer is fit to earn such a prize, and only the talented few will do so. This is a Skill Challenge. Your Bard must roll a d20 and add their Performance modifier against a DC of 25, adding +1 to their total for each of their Bard levels.
They must succeed three times before failing three times, in order to win their Brooch. With every failure the crowd will grow restless, and with every success the crowd will cheer. Winning The Lady’s Brooch is a significant achievement, and should be rewarded accordingly.

The Brawler's Challenge

The Lost Lady is also known for its feats of strength (the travelling folk’s name for arm wrestling.) Great Haystacks is half-goliath, half-orc and is The Lost Lady’s current arm-wrestling champion. He has granite-grey tusks, and eyes as cold as icewind.
Fred keeps a running pot behind the bar, which is open to be won. He has set up a nice arrangement with Haystacks--50% to him for winning, and 50% to the tavern for hosting. It is 10g to enter, and the winnings currently stand at 260 gold. This is a Skill Challenge. Your challenger must roll a d20 and add their Strength modifier. The GM will roll for Haystacks who has a +8 modifier thanks to his Bracers of Tavern-Tables, which add +3 to all his rolls. A high Investigation roll by a member of the party can identify these bracers, and if requested he will remove them. They must succeed three times before failing three times, in order to conquer the Great Haystacks.
