House Cascogne

House Cascogne was one of seven noble houses that rule in the Ice-peak Concord. Masters of the city of Mern Kuldor. But the city was burned after an incident with an Efreeti.

History

Insect Swarms

In 4326 BD, legions of insectoid monster called Mantis emerged from the underdark and swarmed the concord. House Cascogne was at the forefront of the defense   Although the Mantis forces dealt a devastating blow to House Cascogne, leaving it severely weakened, the dwarven house managed to rally their strength before facing destruction. United, the bulk of the ice-peak concord armies successfully repelled the Aq'id soldiers.   Ultimately, neither the Dwarves of the Ice-Pak Concord nor the Mantids of Aq'id emerged as victors. The dwarves' mining operations were halted after the war, as numerous dwarves feared the insectoid monsters would use their tunnels and mines to launch attacks on the dwarven mountain-cities. It took an entire generation before the dwarven mines were entirely reopened.

Fall of a house

After the devastating blow dealt by the Aq'id, house cascogne sought ways to regain their former strength and glory. In 4083 BD they began to experiment with ways to strengthen their bond with the elemental planes, specifically the Elemental Plane of Fire. In their quest for power, they succeeded in creating a link between their mountain-city and the plane of fire.   However, this link attracted the attention of an efreeti, a powerful fire genie. The efreeti saw an opportunity to gain control over the dwarves of House Cascogne, and he took it. Slowly, he began to exert a tyrannical leadership over the dwarves, using his power over fire to keep them in line.   As the efreeti's power grew, so too did the influence of the elemental plane of fire on House Cascogne's mountain. The mountain itself began to change, becoming more like a volcano. The dwarves of House Cascogne were trapped, unable to escape the control of the efreeti or the destructive power of the volcano.   Fearing that the efreeti's leadership might spread to other houses, the dwarves of House Cascogne made the difficult decision to destroy their own mountain-city. They used powerful Magic to crumble the mountain, trapping the efreeti in a cage of rock and magma.   It is not known if the efreeti survived this destruction, but if he did, he would likely be furious and plotting his escape. House Cascogne was destroyed, but the dwarves of the Ice-Peak Concord were able to keep the efreeti's tyranny from spreading any further. The tale of House Cascogne serves as a cautionary tale to all dwarves of the dangers of seeking too much power, and the importance of tradition and balance.

Smoke and snow

In 1134 AD a group of adventurers composed of Astriane, Breizh Ankil, Demia Bose, Ginette and Rakon sought the ancient dwarven crown seized by the efreeti millenia ago. They infiltrated the volcano city through the volcano's chimney.   Once inside the volcano, the group managed to fight the efreeti, killing it and seizing the ancient dwarven crown. However, in the chaos of battle, the fighter caused the volcano's eruption, expelling the group out of the volcano.   With the house now freed from the efreet, the Dwarves discussed the possibility of reconverting the volcano into a mountain city.
