Humans believe that once, humanity ruled the world. Before the Ascended War, they were the largest of races, with great wizards and warriors both among their ranks. They claim that it was humanity that built the great cities, humanity that is the true descendants of ancient Si’yla. The other races ignore the shadow of what was, either mocking the too-proud monkeys or allowing a decaying race its delusion. Humanity was shattered by the Ascended War and, thanks to constant war and predation, is now one of the fewest races. Though not currently on the brink of extinction, a hard push could see humanity dying out within a few generations.
Humans are able to fit well in the company of elf and orc. Humans can mimic the behaviors of any other race, and so either join groups of elves, orcs, or halflings, or live in small communities based around nuclear family groups.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

70% of humans still live within the Great Cities, having never left following the catastrophes of the Ascendancy War. The rest have dispersed to small strongholds and farming communities to try to rebuild the once great human race.

Common Dress Code

Much of human finery has been lost to the ages, and the dresses and suits that remain are tattered and patched over generations. Modern human clothing is utilitarian, covers much of the body, and is made of coarse but warm wool or hide.

Common Myths and Legends

Humanity claims that it was the race to create Ancient Si'yla and claims many of the members of the Seven and One as their own. When the Ascendancy War spread across the world, humanity was the vanguard and the most vocal supporters of their Ascended. As Arcastorms, earthquakes, and the destruction wrought by the Ascended personally wracked the earth, so many humans died that there was real fear that the race would go extinct in the days following the Godhunter's appearance. When what remained of the Ascended's armies returned to the great cities humanity was saved, and in the ten thousand years since it has clung tenaciously to survival.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Humans are more hostile to orcs and other humanoids than the other races, as they see their species dying if orc warbands continue growing across the world and choking out other civilizations.

Conservation Status

The human race has scattered from the great cities, and 30% of its population now exists within small farming hamlets. These are fiercely independent, fighting and bleeding for their land and homes. The main purpose of these pockets of humanity is to breed quickly and produce many children, in an attempt to save the race from its decline.
