Alliée Guru
Alliée Guru is a female human NPC who lived in Toivoa and crossed paths with the crew of The Changemaker on at least one occasion.
Not much is known about Alliee's past, except that she has contacts among the shadier folk and is familiar, though not overly friendly, with the Sohnoza Protectorate. She can fish and sail.
Alliee is a beautiful singer. It may be dangerous to listen.
Early Life Little is known about Alliée's early life. According to Skeeas Cross, Alliée is a murderer who resided in Endland Pointe before killing her husband and fleeing the city by ship.
The Changemaker On The Changemaker's maiden voyage from Nausha to Endland Pointe, the crew found Alliee floating aboard a driftwood raft. She claimed she had been traveling alone when her boat sank during a storm. Judging her to be friendly (an assessment they may later have reversed), the crew agreed to provide her passage to Endland Pointe in exchange for a small fee and her assistance in sailing the ship. Alliée carried with her only her pack, a fishing rod, and bucket of fish, and she scuttled her makeshift raft upon boarding. She was dismayed to learn that the crew had Pitney Bones locked up below decks and doubly dismayed when the Black Manta, a Sohnoza Protectorate Man-o'-War under the command of Captain Palalira, appeared on the horizon to come for Pitney. With Allié's assistance, the crew were able to outrun the Manta and reach safety where the Protectorate's territory ended a mile from shore.
After escaping the Manta, Alliee directed the ship toward a small dock and guided them to a shady tavern called The Broken Mug, where she arranged with Dee for the crew to take a job raiding a sea hag's cave. Alliée did not accompany the crew, but in exchange for the tip and a belt of healing potions, Alliée received 10% of the cut.
Continuing toward Endland Pointe, Alliée assisted the crew in fending off a Sahaguin attack. She was asleep below decks when The Changemaker was finally captured by the Manta after drifting back into Protectorate territory during the night, but the crew successfully persuaded Palalira not to search the ship, using the Sahaguin attack as an excuse for the missing figurehead, and Alliée remained undetected. Alliée did not participate in any of the crew's further adventures on the journey to Endland Pointe, such as their gladiatorial fight at Riport or the raid on the island Frenzy lab. Upon reaching Endland Pointe, Alliée thanked the crew for their assistance, and they parted ways.
Alliée was not seen again by the crew of The Changemaker before they set off for Ostrea to continue their assault on the Twelve Spiders' drug operations. However, she was cited by Skeeas Cross as one of the reasons the crew needed to depart in a timely fashion; according to Skeeas, Alliée was a wanted murderer who had killed her husband, and she was substantially more dangerous than the crew believed. Since returning, she had reestablished connections that made her a major player in the power struggles within the city, and he implied it would not bode well for the crew if they met her again.
Abilities During her travel on The Changemaker, Alliée had character statistics consistent with a 3rd-level (or possibly 4th-level) Swashbuckler Rogue:
2d6 of Sneak Attack damage indicates 3-4 levels in Rogue; Her initiative bonus is 5.17, indicating DEX 17 (+3) and some other source of +2 to initiative; +5 to hit with rapier, shortbow, dagger, indicating a proficiency bonus of +2 and therefore a total character level no higher than 4 (these weapons are also consistent with the Rogue proficiency list Persuasion +2, indicating either CHA +2 or CHA +0 and proficiency in Persuasion; Perception +4 and Survival +4, likely indicating WIS +2 and proficiency in both abilities; Attacks with a rapier and a dagger in the same turn, suggesting the Dual Wielder feat (as the rapier is not a light weapon and cannot normally be dual-wielded). This feat could have been taken at 1st level with a Variant Human build, or at 4th level instead of an Ability Score Increase. Swashbucklers add their CHA modifier to their initiative rolls beginning at 3rd level; assuming CHA +2 and no proficiency in Persuasion, this is consistent with her DEX score and initiative bonus. With 3-4 levels in Rogue and a character level no higher than 4, she can have no more than 1 level in another class, and there are no 1st-level class abilities (or feats that she could have taken at 4th level) which grant exactly +2 to initiative. She could have a magic item (or NPC ability) to that effect, but the most likely explanation is that she is a Swashbuckler Rogue of 3rd or 4th level. Her DEX score of 17 suggests 3rd level rather than 4th; if she were 4th level and a Variant Human build (having already taken Dual Wielder at 1st level), she would very likely use the Ability Score Increase to reach DEX 19. However, she could have a different racial build and with Dual Wielder taken at 4th level, or taken another unknown feat at 1st or 4th level.
From a metagaming perspective, 3rd and 4th level are both reasonable. The crew of The Changemaker was 2nd level when they met Alliée; a 3rd-level NPC would be reasonable so as not to be too far ahead of the party should they ally with her, but a 4th-level NPC would also make a reasonable challenge for a 2nd-level party in the event they ended up fighting her. She also could have leveled up with the party, as she did not participate in combat until the crew were 3rd level.
