The Divided Stars

And when the chaos settled, we looked up to a sky we no longer recognised. New stars defiantly declared their right to be, and old stars cowered. In rare places the two combined, creating brand new patterns in the night. Such happened with what I've heard called the "Divided Stars", the remnants of our constellation of Balance and elven shapes.

The Divided Stars is a major constellation in the north sky, and one of the most recognisable for the people of Thurásin. It's 'eyes' are often used as navigational aids, as they are seen as being northernmost stars.

History and Symbolism

This constellation is a melding of two pre-existing ones - The human constellation of Balance, and the elven constellation of Pelüshlu. The two were brought together by The Collision, which combined their realms of reality. While many of the stars and previous constellations were mixed up and muddled beyond recognition, Balance and Pelüshlu were split down the middle and merged.   Balance was taken to represent the Divinity of Balance, a prominent and revered deity in Thurásin to whom the peace of the land is attributed. Pelüshlu was similarly seen as a symbol of peace, albeit a peacekeeper who kept order through more violent means. Their role in an old elven myth in which an "evil" city and its rulers are razed to the ground is key to the constellation's symbolism.   As a single symbol, the Divided Stars are seen as a symbol of the different ways balance can be achieved, and as a good omen for relations between humans and elves in the centuries to come.

Northern Star

While the Divided Stars are used as a navigational tool within Thurásin, they do not serve that purpose for the people of Abravost. Even within that continent's northernmost reaches, these stars are not visible. This caused immense confusion for the ill-fated Dyiiladuun Fleet, which found itself unable to follow its usual northern star once it drew closer to Thurásin, and was forced to guess at which direction was the one they wanted.

That was a very interesting take on a constellation: Two constellations merged together!
