County of Aviroux

A successor state to the Kingdom of Polliers, one of the most ambitious and aggressive successors. Having waged multiple wars against the neighbouring counties and states.

Structure

The county of Aviroux is ruled by the Moitessier family. The land is divided into four baronies who hold charge of those regions taxes, infrastructure and populace.

Count Remonet Moitessier

The current head of the Moitessier dynasty, he is a tall, handsome and ambitious man dedicated to making his house great. He was the first to declare independence when the Kingdom of Polliers started to crumble. His large army and loyal barons followed him, eager for glory and conquest. His seat of power is in fortress city of Vayonne, he also claims the town of Rounau.

Baron Salvi Marcello

The baron of Vassion is a warrior lord and the realms marshal, leading it's armies. He has proven himself in many battles against Aviroux's neighbours, tasked with defending the westerns borders along with maintaining the valuable farms and fields that keep the county fed and rich. As such he has accumulated quite a lot of wealth through taxes and has levied thousands of peasants to fight for the county. He enjoys the finer things in life, he dines on the finest foods and drinks that he can purchase from merchants travelling from Fawiyyah and Illamel, while dressing in the grandest silk clothing from Zhizun Long.

Military

The Aviroux army like all other successor states consists of levy peasants as the bulk of the army. Normally armed with spears, axes or tools used for farming, craft or hunting. They are not supplied with equipment so must bring their own weapons and armour or scavange what they can from the battlefield. These levies are supported by professional and elite men at arms paid and supplied by their lords.

Condottieri

Never shying away from the frontline these elite swordsmen are some of the best in Aviroux's army. Heavily armoured and equipped with longswords and shields, they form a near unbreakable wall. Count Moitessier and his barons employ the Condottieri as their personal guards. On the battlefield they are used as reserve backline infantry, charged with defending their lord and skirmishers should the levies break.

Serjeant

These heavy halberdiers are the bane of any cavalry who face them. Recruited from hardy folk that live in the Darkbarrow Peaks, as strong as their are tall and able to withstand the most devastating cavalry charges. Clad in chainmail, kettle helms and good quality boots they are well equipped to hold their own on the battlefield. Positioned on the flanks in a battle to defend the Balestrieri from being enveloped and overrun.

Balestrieri

The County of Aviroux tend not to use blackpowder weapons in it's armies, the slow reloading weapons have been put aside in exchange for an equally powerful advanced weapon. The repeater crowssbow. The Balestrieri are masters of this weapon and it's heavier counterpart, their speed and accuracy is unmatched capable of unleashing rapid volleys of bolts. They are equipped with huge paviss shields to protect against enemy skirmishers and shortswords to fight in melee should they need it. Their bolts tear through the enemy while the Aviroux infantry keep them protected, they are the often the key to Aviroux's victories and highly respected amongst their countrymen.

Coustillier

A medium shock cavalry, clad in breast plates and chainmail and armed with spears. They Coustilliers duty is to disrupt the enemy lines, causing confusion and dissarray to allow the Balestrieri more time to fire. Though they are mostly used to harrass infantry or skirmishers their medium armour, maces and sabres allow them to face most other cavalries. Though they may come up lacking against the Hussars, Gendarme or Cataphracts.

Heralds of Reqiuem

The dark songs of these bards are sung throughout the battlefield, their songs both inspire and aid those around them with resorative magic while also summoning forth bodies of the dead and casting dark necromantic spells. They are both a valuable asset and a terrifying presence to both friend and foe alike, where priests and clerics are seldom found in the County of Aviroux since the rise of the Orthodoxy these bards of the death are one of the only peoples who can performing curative magics. Much like the Magomorte they are granted certain freedoms within the County of Aviroux that they would not find elsewhere.

Magomorte

Count Remonet has a very different view on the use of necromantic magic, he believes in using whatever is available to increase Aviroux's strength. So when a cabal of necromancers approached him asking for sanctum away from the persecuting hand of the Orthodoxy and their holy orders, he let them in with open arms. Of course he only did so on the pretence that they would serve him as his own personal mages, thus the Magomorte were created a unit of wizards, sorcerers and warlocks that practice the dark arts of necromancy. Feared by the commonfolk, they are granted elevated status in society and permitted to use their magics in anyway they like, only answering directly to Count Remonent himself.
