Rothman House
The Rothman House is a moderately sized tavern located near the western edge of the Shirefield District of Len Doa. It is owned and operated by Dilbert Rothman, a 41-year-old and immensely fat Human male. Dilbert is unwed and lives above the tavern with his younger brother, Bertram Rothman.
Purpose / Function
Serving food and drink to local residents and visitors to the city. Fare is soup or stew, fresh bread, cheese, dried sausage and smoked fish. Drinks offered are ale (good), beer (poor) and wine (terrible). The tavern can hold up to four horses in a small yard behind the building but has no stables. There are no rooms available at the Rothman House.
Sensory & Appearance
The tavern is primarily made up of one large room panelled in clear pine boards and lit with brass and glass lanterns. There is a single small hearth in the main dining hall that is lit only on the coldest winter days. Tables are rather rough and quite low and seating is exclusively stools and benches rather than chairs.
Denizens
The regular patrons of the Rothman House are exclusively Human. Most of these are prone to share the owner's intense dislike of the ducal leadership and seem overly inclined to avoid the company of Halfling majority of the district's population. The crowd is never large at the Rothman House, and even on the busiest of nights, fewer than 15 guests will be found within the hall at any one time.
Hazards & Traps
Any news of particular interest that might be voiced within the tavern can be counted on to reach the ears of the local representatives of the Duke of Hekmo that are known to frequent the House. These men are dedicated servants of Turl am Nari or his son, Torum. While neither of these august persons would ever be found within the Rothman House's confines, they recognize that the sympathies of the owner and his few patrons are firmly with their own and not with the Duke of Len Doa.
Alterations
The building is quite old, having survived the tragic fire of 178 AF and suffering only the loss of its thatched roof. Since that event, a timber and tile roof has been added, as has a larger stone kitchen attached to the back of the building.
Architecture
A dressed limestone first story and a timber framed upper story. Windows are small and shuttered rather than glazed. There are only two entrances to the tavern, one from the north off the gate street and one from the east.
