Bertie is a drunk. If he were able, he'd drink constantly. He is a relatively happy drunk, always smiling and generous with the other patrons of the Rothman House, but deep down he is terribly unhappy and fundamentally conflicted. He knows his older brother, Dilbert, is an angry and bitter man that focuses his frustration on the current duke and the duchy's leadership, but he increasingly has trouble justifying any tollerance or understanding for that anger and bitterness.
