TMBD - chapter 1 - Now is the Time

Solo game

Checking on the Coriolis Discord, I read that the publishers are OK with players recreating tables, figures and data from the RPG source material where the only purpose is the facilitation of playing their game and I hereby promise this is my only intent with this article. The rules foundation for this solo game are those of the Coriolis RPG; the 1001 Nights rules variant I apply are my own design - Doctor Weather
I've spent days trying to leave Coriolis. Finally, I had to say goodbye to my friends, Mehera, Fajar and Taban, as the celebration of the beginning of my pilgrimage was becoming an adventure unto itself. They would have come down to Neoptra Spaceport with me but Mehera would have had an idea about finding a courtesan or Taban would have recommended one last cantina... I'd never have left. So I've left them tearfully in the Spice Plaza to do Icons know what damage and here I am.   Traveller guide me, they said, and I realise that I may need his assistance right away. I have no idea what ship I'm taking, nor even what route. The pilgrim caravans won't leave in earnest for two segments, so I need other passage, but that does also give me plenty of time. Going through the Quadrant would mean a necessary trip home. Icons bless my family and keep them safe but no, I want to see the Horizon, not get fat on Jida's baklava whilst falling asleep to uncle Hamad's stories; Aiwaz it is then.   The Flower of Ibsalim would have been a delight to travel upon - they say she is starting to gain a permanent companion convoy now - but I would have to have been far more organised to arrive here as she did. I'll hope to see her out amongst the stars. For now I must find another way.   But first, the visitors' chapel, I think.
Preparatory prayerPrayer and offering to the Traveller: "Traveller watch over me and help me find my path again should I ever become lost"

Malak Al-Beyoun Al-Delekta updated to reflect current rules and I'm ready to play again - that took a while but there it is
Onwards: There's not much on Aiwaz in the source material, only 4 hooks:
  • Aiwaz Mattor
  • The Eye of the Dancer Temple
  • The Fire Lakes
  • Autonomous abaci from the polytechnicians
...but they'll be good when I get there
Instead, I'll roll on the Atlas Compendium's mission generators for pilgrims for inspiration for a ship for Malak to travel on... with complications... and daydream something from the results

TABLE ROLLMY INTERPRETATION
Employer - 66 - hermit
  • The ship owner is a recluse who really doesn't want any company - Malak will have a hard time persuading them to let him come along
  • It's the only ship leaving today though, and Malak knows if he doesn't leave now he may never, so it has to be
Rewards - 32 - gearOK, so that's very generic... At some point there has to be some gear, maybe:
  • The hermit is hiding what they're transporting
  • Malak has to help the hermit source something to allow the voyage to continue - maybe this is what gets Malak on board in fact...
Voyage - 62 - fulfill prophecy
  • This could be the very Traveller's guidance - it will pique Malak's interest that some prophecy is to be fulfilled and he'll be a part of it
  • It can't be the answer to his quest of course - not this early - but that doesn't stop Malak believing it is
  • The hermit might have broken their vow of solitude to bring something somewhere, to make something happen... is this the 'gear' needing transported?
Complication - 24 - doomsday prophecyO...K..., so...
  • Maybe Malak doesn't know about this at the start
  • Maybe he overhears people talking about this - maybe he has to stop it...?
Ideas...The hermit has an autonomous abacus counting down to something - Malak knows about the bottom row and why it isn't moving...
Unfortunately, updating Malak Al-Beyoun Al-Delekta and rolling on the tables has taken all my time this session - but I'm ready for the voyage next time, so I'm calling that a win.
