UAC bioships often differ from regular bioships and mechanical ships in a number of ways, but are perhaps closer to mechanical ships in many ways than 'true' biological ships.
Although they are organic, they have a crew. They are crewed by Harki (plural term for harkas), who can interface with the bioship using their hivemind.
They differ from more natural space creatures in that they usually lack free will, being more vehicle-like. They also lack organs that 'natural' space creatures have such as digestive systems, instead generating energy through antimatter annihilation like mechanical HF ships.
Another similarity to mechanical ships is that UAC bioships are easy to modify. The entire genome for the bioship is almost always stored at or near the bridge so a harkas can easily inject a compound into it to modify it using their gene splicing gland.
Although biological tissue tends to be weaker structurally than machines, UAC bioships come with the advantage of not requiring tanks of matter plasma to operate and grow - the blood stores every material required for regrowth. This is an advantage as matter plasma is explosive when hit with powerful rounds, but blood is not.
Like machine ships, bioships can perform a very wide variety of roles.
The naming convention for bioships is also different from mechanical ships. They will take on a Harkas name, with a fairly long word afterwards. Examples include:
T.S. Irgas Unparalleled, T.S. Vurvu Interstellar, T.S. Yarel Innocence.
