The Mauray Crisis
Following the abductions by the Hyperion Federation on the people on Mauray, many were enraged.
Actions such as this go against the very culture of the HF - to disrupt primitve alien species as little as possible, as well as forcing people to live in the HF as prisoners outside of a war.
As a result of this, protests were organised. Many happened. Some turned into full scale uprisings. The abductions were supposed to have been done in secret, but now everyone knows. The HSA was very interested in the magic-like abilities of the natives of Mauray. They saw the potential benefit to outweigh the cost of the several lives they took from Mauray. If this could advance their knowledge enough, it would give the HF a great advantage against both Cypher Dominion and HEX Mainframe attacks and secure their position as a powerful faction more reliably. This would save far more lives in the long run. They tried to use propaganda to show the population this, however the riots were still significant. Thousands of lives were lost, many more injured and several ships were destroyed in the chaos. Although the HSA has now leaned a lot about magic, they are still unable to put this information into practice. Their knowledge is still not deep enough to make any real use of it, especially since they cannot communicate to the individuals they abducted due to not having their language. The HSA believes it is quite close to decoding many languages of Mauray, after which point they would be able to communicate with perhaps the most valuable individual scientifically, Sunset Lightmoon. They cannot release any captured individuals back to Mauray because that could reveal the existance of the HF to them.
