the Hallowed Masks- Thieves' Guild

Behind the scenes and living in the back alleys and underground waterways of the polis' sewers, is the Hallowed Masks- the Thieves' Guild and a secret organization of Meletis. They have an entrance in the storeroom of the Different Sign and give a cut of their profits to Sergios the Owner to keep it secret, but they know not to trust him too much. It seems like the Masks have been around for about as long as the city, which is very true, and they seek to make coin, raise a little chaos, and stay under the radar of the ruling Council of Twelve.
Their hideout is positioned under the polis itself in the sewers and there have been a few fortifications made to keep their amassed wealth protected. While most criminals do understand the role of Phenax and appreciate his love and embodiment of deception, few truly worship him as a God and their leader, which in fact he is. The Society of the True Thread- Phenax's secret cult, is the guiding force behind the guild. In fact, their Guild Master, Ilias Dimotis, works directly with the High Priest of the True Thread to arrange hits, burglaries, and infiltration of specific appointed targets.

*Unknown to everyone but the Guild Master, is that above them is the High Priest of Phenax that give direct message from the Cult of Phenax.

Culture

The Masks believe that attempting to establish order in a chaotic world is pure folly. Life is chaos and lies and manipulation, better make the best of it. Crime is a natural state for mortals and expecting virtue from others is stupid.

Public Agenda

Mostly, unknown to the public the few that do know they exist understand that the Guild is a criminal organization looking to make money and potentially disrupt the polis so much as to cause its downfall.

Assets

The Hallowed Masks consists of a large secret network of individuals in different realms of society, some even stretching into the aristocratic echelons and because they are in actuality associated with The Society of the True Thread, Phenax's cult, they can even claim to have influence in the Council. There is a mass of wealth hidden in the Roman-like sewers beneath Meletis and they smuggle in weapons and armor from Akros. They also have several fences through Theros.
