Gorgandr's Basin

Overview

Named after the Black Dragon, Gorgandr, this basin is nestled in the far North of the Dragon Fjords. Surrounded by great mountains to the North, West, and East, the only viable way to travel in and out of the region is through Alfwen's pass which connects to Ymir's Bay in the south. However, it should be noted this passage is only traversable during the seasons of Brashla and Nemir when the waterway is both unfrozen and calm enough.
The Basin itself is a wide and expansive with many waterways snaking out in all directions, broken up by low-lying outcroppings of land. For most of the year these bays and canals are frozen over however even then they remain the primary way that the inhabitants of the regions travel.
The landscape is dotted with thick forests of evergreens and ice-covered boulders, giving it a rugged and imposing appearance. In the distance, jagged glaciers high in the mountains can be seen glinting in the sunlight, adding to the sense of cold and awe.

Geography

Gongandr's Basin is notable for its dense forests, cold pebble beaches, and the surrounding glacier-covered mountains. Outside of Frexal the waterways and forest remain free of snow and ice, protected by the natural magic present in the region. However, when Frexal arrives and the frost sets in almost the entirety of the region is covered in a blanket of snow. The waterways become frozen over, preventing travel by sea.
The Passage Ways (South)
In the South, are the Passage Ways. All travelers to the basin must pass through the passageways in order to reach the rest of it. The passageways are flanked by the steepest of the basin's mountains and have some of the most dangerous waters due to the large tidal movements due to the proximity to Ymir's Bay.
The notable settlements in this region are:
The Isles (Central)
Moving North from the Passageways will bring you to the Isles. This region of the basin separates the North from the South and is where the majority of the large population centers and religious sites are located. The waters here are calm and stay ice-free for most of the year, allowing for easy and safe travel for ships. The Isles also provide more protection from the beasts that inhabit the mountains compared to the Passage Ways and The Wilds.
The Notable settlements in the region are:
  • Frostblade Keep
The Wilds (North)
Beyond the Passage Ways and the Isles lies the Wilds, the untamed portion of Gorgandr's Basin. These lands are famous for the large beasts that roam freely along with the bitter winds that roll down the mountains.
On top of the natural threats present in the Wilds, there also exists the mountain tribes. This group of isolated tribes located deep within the mountains will occasionally leave their homes to raid the settlements present in the Wilds.
Due to the dangers present in the region, not many have dared to settle. Those that have, settle in fort-like structures that hug the coast allowing for better defense from raids as well as making it easy to come and go. The majority of those who live in these forts are adventurers looking to improve themselves or prisoners, serving out their sentences.
The Notable settlements in the region are:
  • Silvermist
  • Fort Stormwartch
