Zivvik and Vormigaunt

Where is Vormigaunt?

Past Axorus to the northeast, but still on most major trade routes in the north-south corridor, is the very calm icy wasteland known as Vormigaunt. Despite its isolation and emptiness, it is fondly regarded for its hotsprings and proximity to Jiasote, one of the more prominent trade destinations along the trade route.

How is Vormigaunt classified?

Benevolent. The local fate pressures are largely as absent as a Missing theome, but people who try to be violent find themselves abruptly constrained and restricted in their very thoughts as they wrestle with Zivvik's will.

What kind of population and economy does Vormigaunt have?

The volcanic icy wasteland of Vormigaunt is not immediately appealing for any purpose. It has trade roads running through it, of the kind of 'road' that is found this far north: marked spaces where sledges run over long distances.

Zivvik rejects all permanent settlement in Vormigaunt, as he is one of the minority of land gods who very much dislikes "having people living in my body" (as said from his perspective). There are no permanent residents in Vormigaunt save Zivvik himself. Fortunately, he doesn't reject visitors, and there are actually several unstaffed inns near the three hot springs that exist at different points near the roads of Vormigaunt. These structures are sometimes referred to as "Zivvik's Temples". They are free to use by anyone who wishes to use them.

Even though nobody lives in Vormigaunt, some people do travel there daily to work. There are small everquarries in the northwest of Vormigaunt. There's an unusual story about them: a group of miners from Jiasote asked Zivvik's permission to sink shafts in Vormigaunt. Zivvik said they were free to try, but he warned them that they'd find nothing. He hadn't built his land to be of any use to miners. When they were instead well-satisfied with what they'd found, Zivvik was somewhat appalled; while the expected metals were absent, they found instead that underneath the icy surface of the theome there was a ground made of a homogenous hard stone. Homogenous hard stone has value in its own right, as the material was highly predictable in its behavior, and thus useful to engineers. They wanted to keep digging it out of the ground, and thus did Zivvik (who had intended his land to be of no economic use) become one of the land gods supporting everquarries.

What is Zivvik like?

In a word, gentle. Zivvik manifests as an unusual wingless dragon with cloven hooves and helical horns. He's a deeply friendly person who likes people bold enough to hug a land god avatar. He spends nearly all his time near his "Temples", though it's a random chance which of the three his avatar is currently near. He's never seen traveling bodily between the three hot springs, and some people believe that he can manifest at any or all of them at his will, so that it's actually up to him whether and when any particular group meets him.

Even though Zivvik is one of the easier land gods to find and talk to, he rarely grants blessings to geomancers, and even more rarely grants blessings of consequence. The result is that most geomancers ignore Vormigaunt and Zivvik interacts far more often with passing merchants.

Zivvik likes hearing news from Omkainth and Ediveyrm, and from conversations on the subject has gained an unusual reputation as a land god who looks up to another land god, for Zivvik is said to look up to Omkainth. Yet Zivvik can't run a populated theome, even though he admires populated theomes, because he just can't handle the idea of people living inside of him like they do in most theomes.

What is the Fate Beacon that Zivvik maintains over Vormigaunt?

The fate beacon over Vormigaunt is a "Tolerance" beacon. Good social outcomes in the free-use inns of Vormigaunt and among the caravaneers who visit this region get a bit boosted over Theoma. This particular beacon is little known to geomancers and it is actually quite a weak beacon (the Tolerance beacon over Omkainth is much stronger and more famous), but the obscurity of Zivvik's beacon also means that it often survives as a positive fate influence in scenarios where people start bitterly fatebreaking.
