Jadarkontalyia and Hydalath

Where is Hydalath?

Jewel of its region, and second farthest north of the jewels upon the north-south trade corridor that passes through Tirrtiran Pass, Hydalath is some distance southeast of Cortacaffakallyenay & Nyberinz and some distance northwest from Omkainth and Ediveyrm. It is also south of Axorus, which is a strange and infamous mystic theome, as well as being north of Sanadir.

How is Hydalath classified?

Benevolent. It's part of the trade corridor, and Jadarkontalyia even built an extension on the enchanted sledgeway after Sanadir to its south established it.

What kind of economy and population does Hydalath have?

Some of the 'jewel' theomes are relatively modest. Hydalath... is not. It is one of the 'grand' northern theomes where the Swaivshon have been encouraged by the land gods to build unusual hyperdense constructions. One of the grander roads in Hydalatheven even dives deep underground in a vast helix, and is said to straighten out only in an underworld theome far below. This is accurate, but few people from the surface ever visit such places.

Despite the northern latitude, magically heated roads ensure that wheeled rather than sledded vehicles are the predominant local kind, although courtesy of the enchanted sledgeway there is quite a lot of long-distance through-traffic on sledges. Dragons pulling their own vehicles are a little more common than usual in Hydalath, with praise for heated roadways to be heard! Visitors can often hire Vrash-pulled wagons to get around town. There's rarely any slush on the roads, as travelling vrash obliterate it almost by instinct for being unsuitable footing.

Between its cities, Hydalath offers a wide open tundra with occasional tenacious stands of trees. The penchant of the local wild plants for various flavors of blue glow are best interpreted by experts; the wildlife here can manage a more indiscriminate diet than most dragons.

Does Hydalath have any secrets?

The secret world capital of the Swaivshon Underground Metallurgist Alliance (SUMA) is under the Hydalath city of Polser, which is the capitol of Hydalath and the one with the diving helix roadway. It truly is a roadway to the underworld of Theoma, connecting to the underground theome of Haradur.

What are the cities of Hydalath like?

Hydalath is famed for its vast pyramid-cities. Properly arcologies, these have been under construction since the dawn of time in Theoma, with even the Primordial Souls being directed to begin construction as soon as their cities were stably supplied.

Polser, the capital, has four pyramids and the start of a fifth, being built up on top of the other four. The diving helix roadway of Polser is no secret (though the SUMA may be one), and it has an entrance point from each of the four pyramids, running down in a broad, slow descent underneath the centerpoint of the four pyramids. Hydalath is one of the more known places where the Deep-Under may be accessed and trade may proceed between the surface and underground theomes.

What is Jadarkontalyia like?

A firm overseer who Fates the city to its prosperity, Jadarkontalyia has been encouraging people to work hard since the dawn of history in Theoma, and she rewards people whose ambitions extend for lifetimes of endeavor. This has arguably made people less happy in her theome; their striving is competitive and the great wealth that they've built up is hardly enjoyed in the search for still more.

Jadarkontalyia incarnates as an abstract symbol in red psuedo-lettering, similar to the incarnation of Omkainth and Ediveyrm, and she is one of the few land gods who has temples to herself in her theome. These temples are seen as essential for people to recognize that the city has relatively heavy Fate burdens. Her church helps people to understand the needs of the city and how they can find a place within it. As Jadarkontalyia's benevolence is generally recognized, there are a few distant temples in other theomes, such as one in Omkainth and Ediveyrm that locals of the faith occasionally take pilgrimages to visit.

Jadarkontalyia is one of the land gods who is relatively easy to convince to bless fertility (see Universal Infertility & How Reproduction Proceeds Regardless), though she never corrupts the process and so enacts the price consistently. Nevertheless, she maintains good relations with the Lineal Society and some people in Hydalath can be said to have dwelled there for generations.

What is the Fate Beacon that Jadarkontalyia maintains over Hydalath?

Jewel theomes very typically have beacons, and so it is well-understood that Hydalath has one, too. Yet the actual nature of the beacon over Hydalath is a little obscure, and while they are generally exceptional in their myriad specialties, many of the citizens of the city would be surprised to learn that they are working underneath one of Theoma's Specialist Beacons. The skill circlets that are produced in the city are generally produced specifically by Jadarkontalyia's church to help people who are struggling in the city (ie for charitable purposes), and so the majority of freely circulating skill circlets in the city (ie the ones found in shops) are imported from elsewhere.

The skill circlets produced by Jadarkontalyia's church are considered minor sacred objects, and there is a great taboo against reselling them. If one feels they no longer benefit greatly from keeping a skill circlet, the approved course of action is to donate them back to the church so that they can go to another person in greater need.

Specialist beacons are uncontroversial. They make people a little better at things that people have dedicated a very great portion of their will to mastering, and so it is generally true that only the most determinedly anti-Fate people can be convinced that specialist beacons are an affront to their free will.
