Tasumdynal and Xeladash
Where is Xeladash?
On the coast of Tachamund near the northwestern edge of the north-central forest of Tachamund, Xeladash is a famed port city whose proximity to Taisatinrun and Inrakaveach makes it renowned as a supplier of metals to distant places. It is north of Keltia-Aneya.
How is Xeladash classified?
Unlike most urbanized theomes, Xeladash is a Negotiable theome. The local land god Tasumdynal believes in using the weave of Fate lightly and subtly, so the ordering of the city is based upon the choices of the citizens to a much greater extent. It's said that Tasumdynal creates no Abstracts, too. Arcane scholars tend to disbelieve that claim, but it would further disorder the city if true, as it would mean that none of the people in it are secretly formed of the pure will of the land god.
The crime rate in Xeladash is considerably higher than in most urban theomes. It is exposed to influences from many different theomes and it is under considerably less fate pressure than most urban theomes are. The "Visit Me" beacon here is one of the ones that people prize getting rid of, so brief visitors are abnormally common, but people who are only visiting briefly also expect to be able to get away with and from any bad decisions they make here! What happens in Xeladash stays in Xeladash.
What kind of population and economy does Xeladash have?
Xeladash is a port city where metal and ore are cheap and people travel to visit it from all over Theoma. The ship cargoes transiting out of Xeladash contribute substantially to development all over Theoma. It's considered a very advanced and cosmopolitan city despite its crime rate. Many vices are tolerated in Xeladash as well, giving it a dubious yet exciting reputation. There are unusual gulfs between rich and poor here, and people who visit are sometimes in terror of the slums.
Ther's an unusual concentration of people in Xeladash who do not intend to remain in Xeladash, either because they are only briefly visiting, or because they tried to stay and discovered that the price of staying was a life in poverty. Those who are skinflinting to gather funds for starting somewhere else can be intimidating people, especially if they turn to vice provision and/or try to take advantage of tourists in a city where the land god isn't protecting people in ordinary ways.
As they prize their own chaotic potential, many people in Xeladash have visited nearby Inrakaveach to break their connection with the "Regularity" Fate Beacon that broadcasts from there.
What is Tasumdynal like?
Tasumdynal really prizes his city's reputation as one where absolute freedom reigns. He doesn't want to press on people with Fate and he very much appreciates the wild variety of a city where people know they'll be theomes away by the next morning. The "fly by night" reputation of his port city doesn't bother him, though it bothers the nearby land god Taisatinrun, who rules Inrakaveach unusually directly.
The elected government of Xeladash rarely consults with Tasumdynal, who after all staunchly avoids telling people how to live their own lives. Tasumdynal is much more commonly found trying the latest new thing in his city, where he manifests as a kalla with a great enthusiasm for cultural events. He is also however a local bastion of safety, as he is an occasional fated vigilante when people are hurting each other. His theome is not truly a Missing theome and his tolerance is not truly limitless.
Tasumdynal is popular with some kinds of geomancer and unpopular with others. He's a good geomancer to bring new performance pieces to, such as when geomancers go about Authoring Hymns to gain power. He's a bad geomancer to request quests from, as he claims he has no creativity in writing quests, and doesn't really like sending people "to do odd things in distant theomes," as Tasumdynal summarizes the activity of questing. EIther way, he can be a bit hard to find, as his itinerary is not published, but eventually geomancers who have struggled for a while to find him will be found by him. "Searching for my avatar sends a bit of a tremor along the strands of Fate, and makes a searcher easy for me to find in turn," says Tasumdynal about his side of that process. He's been quoted about a number of things!
What is the Fate Beacon that Tasumdynal maintains over Xeladash?
The wild port city of Xeladash does one wild thing to the weave of fate: a visit me beacon. Tasumdynal wants people to SEE his wonderful city at some point in their lives! As such, the effort most land gods exert on protecting people in place are instead exerted protecting people who've scarcely ever heard of Tasumdynal on the other side of Theoma, which is the actual usual function of Visit Me Beacons: they protect people who haven't visited them yet.
Tasumdynal has been known to make a strange claim sometimes. He says that land gods are not infinitely able to multitask (which is of course known to be true), but specifically that land gods can maintain any two of: a good beacon, a good avatar, and good fates for the people in their theome. He is choosing to maintain a good beacon and a good avatar. So he claims.
