Axorus

Where is Axorus?

Just north of the favorably famed Jadarkontalyia and Hydalath , Axorus is an infamous yawning pit of navigational hazard. It is southeast of Zivvik and Vormigaunt, and south of famed Gruent and Jiasote. Steadfast travellers stick to the roads of Axorus and find no difficulty in crossing it.

How is Axorus classified?

Negotiable & Mystic. Countless caravans pass through with no losses, raising the rating. Yet the Fate pressures in Axorus are bad, and people who do not resist the temptation to explore the city rarely find the main roads again. Only the main roads are readily navigable.

Axorus is classified as a Mystic theome, because it seems to be made of countless world-sprawling cities populated by ghosts. Unlike other Mystic theomes, it doesn't specifically challenge people, or at least it is not known to specifically challenge people. Rumors of special temptations to specific scavengers occasionally arise when Axorus is discussed.

What kind of economy and population does Axorus have?

Wise merchants stay away from all the abandoned cityscapes of Axorus. They do not scavenge if scavenging would take them out of sight of the main road. They do not scavenge at all in places where the road flies on strange supports over ecumenopoli. To take from the flying supports is to collapse the road, and only flyers who catch the air and follow the ghost of the road have managed to report on this phenomenon which claims whole caravans that try to take the flying supports themselves away as prizes.

Axorus is a vast and beautiful world-of-worlds where glimpses of alien cityscape after alien cityscape can be seen. Every few kilometers along the road, one's whole environment changes as though one has stepped through an invisible portal. The cities thus seen are barren in ways that make them harder to scavenge from (such as by having no furnishings) and they are inhabited only by ghosts. People speak of the astonishing vistas of Axorus in ways that encourage tourists to join the far-north caravans which travel through the city, but tourists who do not keep to the clearly marked main roads are typically lost forever.

Unless they are gnarlen, that is. The intrinsic resistance of gnarlen to fate magic prevents them from being horribly turned around when they step away from the main roads. Gnarlen are still sometimes lost for vast stretches of time in Axorus, but as they need not eat and cannot be misdirected by Fate, they are far more likely to find the roads again. Better: they are sometimes able to find each other. There are pockets of profoundly concealed gnarlen society in Axorus, living in a few of the buildings of the endless city-scapes.

There are rumors of a secret gnarlen market in Axorus where truly extraordinary things are bought and sold, but mostly Axorus has through-traffic exclusively.

Who is the land god of Axorus?

It's clear to most geomancers that the land god of Axorus exists. The landscapes of the theome are too vast and miraculous to deem it a Missing theome. Yet no reputable geomancer has ever claimed powers from Axorus, and exploring the endless cities to try to find the land god is generally considered as suicidal as exploring a Hostile theome!
