Gilnares (Gill-Nair-es)

The Furnace of Life

The View of Gilnares from the asteroid Lareen 5a
Dark green and purple striations wrap around the enormous orb that orbits the star Tristell.  As the only major orbital body in the system, it had gathered much of the systems detritus around it.    Forty definable moons orbit the giant with hundreds of additional bodies over various sizes joining them in a chaotic dance. Gilnares orbits relatively close to Tristell, close enough that the orbiting moons have a wide array of environments and climates.    18 of the moons are fully habitable.

Localized Phenomena

The Gazes

There are times where storms will appear on the surface of Gilnares and while this is not an uncommon occurance for a gas giant like this, the Gazes are specific instances where a storm appears that seems to follow a specific moon in its orbit, matching its speed. There does not seem to be a rhyme or reason to when they appear.    What is known is that times where a Gaze is upon a world are periods of heightened magical power of all forms.

Gilnares Reach

Long tendrils of atmosphere from the Gas Giant that inexplicably trail out into space around it. There are usually several active at any given moment.    Magic levels are wildly inconsistent within the tendrils and they can covers millions of miles of space. Whenever orbiting moons pass through the tendrils they experience strange weather patterns, showers of rock and other strange materials and they are often correlated to an increased amount of children born with magical abilities.

Natural Resources

Gilnares serves as an incredible source of fuel, offering multiple forms of Helium, hydrogen and Ammonia among other more esoteric and arcane materials in its atmosphere.    There are thousands of mining platforms peppering the upper atmosphere to extract resources but the volatile nature of the gas giant leads these to be incredibly dangerous and often actively disintegrating hunks of metal.

History

Throughout nearly every species existence on the moons surrounding Gilnares, the gas giant has been an ever-present constant that takes up most of the sky for a significant period of time.   It was only during the time of the Union of Gilnares that any significant exploration of the giants atmosphere was made and resource extraction attempted.

Tourism

Though the atmosphere of the planet is utterly unlivable, the Union of Gilnares had created ten huge Arcologies who were built to grow massive amounts of food. These "Old Union Platforms" now serve as lawless stations and any pleasure or vice can be found here for the right price.    Seven of these stations survived the the dissolution of the union and are under the dominion of any major faction or planetary government.
