Major trading city, at the crossroads of several major, international overland trade routes. Also, in recent decades Lake Ikesa has become a popular tourist destination.

• Railroad connecting to other major cities in Atra, including express line to the Grand Port of Feln Volaris.
• Great highway goes north into Subrosia through Cluafmouth, and south through Whoayae to Yeah, where it ends at the lakeside port city of Slyport.

History

Started as a small trading post.

Tourism

• The artificial Lake Ikesa is a popular vacation location for Atrans, especially during the summer.
• More adventurous tourists will sometimes charter caravans from Ikesa to explore the Marodeen Sea.

Geography

Located in a mountain valley at the easternmost extent of the "Mediterranean" climate in Atra; farther east the mountains become very arid. Ikesa is located along the Nesca River, which has been dammed here to form the artificial reservoir Lake Ikesa.  The river supplies Ikesa with water for the city, but the river is also diverted to run through a dam and supply the river valley with irrigation water so that the land can be farmed. The city is actually on two levels, the river valley, and the area on top of the cliffs above the river.

The cliffs are an area of tall, exposed rock that juts up out of the valley. The top of the cliffs is where most of the houses are, and also where House Veraz  extends its influence. The cliffs are a very defensible position, but the river valley below is also a good place to defend from, although less easy to do so.
