The Queen of Autara
Queen of Autara is the title given to the ruling monarch of the kingdoms.
It is a title passed down through the matriarchal line to one of the Queen's female relatives, traditionally the eldest daughter or female relative. If the heir is too young at the time they inherit the throne a regent -often a close relative- will be appointed.
The current holder of the title is Queen Vivian, who has held the title for around two decades.
Succession
The heir is typically the eldest daughter of the queen but if the eldest is deemed irresponsible or otherwise incapable the queen and the Autaran council may strip them of their title and raise one of the Queen’s other daughters or female relatives to be the heir instead.
This is a quite rare occasion and it is much more common for the heir to abdicate their position rather than having it stripped from them.
Once an heir inherits the throne -commonly after the death or abdication of the previous queen- there will be a be crowned and presented before the people in a coronation celebration. At the coronation the new monarch will be crowned and given the starlit necklace, the official symbol of their legitimacy.
History
According to what is known, the Queen of Autara is an old title, having been created at the same time that Autara was formed centuries ago. Autara was first united under the first queen, prior to that the land was divided and ruled by local leaders with no centralized government or kingdom.
It was the early Queens who built and expanded the Palace and also funded many projects in the Capital. These projects, as well as those of later queens, have resulted in the palace and the capital being home to numerous different architectural styles, ranging from fancy and impractical to more simple and utilitarian.
Notable Queens
The First Queen
The First Queen of Autara was the leader that united much of Autara -excluding the highlands- together as a kingdom. Her name has been lost to time hence she is most commonly referred to as the First Queen. She is also sometimes referred to as the Queen of Stars or the Star Queen, however these names are not as common nowadays.
The First Queen is very mysterious with much knowledge about her having been lost to time. It is known that she unified Autara and that all Queens since have been her descendants but when it comes to specific and personal detail things are murky.
The First Queen was a powerful magic wielder and was said to be able to harness the power of the stars to protect the kingdom. It is through her bloodline that the queens and royals of today have descended and from which they claim their power. Her bloodline is also powerful magically, but very few royals study magic in the present with most studying politics or scholarly pursuits.

Sigil & Symbols of Power
The sigil of the Queen of stars and her family is a silver star on a blue background. This symbol is present on the Queen and Royal family’s banners, shields, and coat of arms and is typically used to denote something or someone as belonging to or working for the monarchy.
The origin of the symbol comes from the early days of the queens, when the first queen was said to wield starlight in her magic. Her magic was a symbol of her reign and thus it became the symbol of her house.
