Magic Wielders

A Magic Wielder is a person who can wield and use Magic to cast spells and enchantments as well as curses and many other forms of magic.

There are many different terms for Magic Wielders, often referring to different types ranging from how they utilize magic, to the kinds of Magic they use, to simply how society sees them.

In order to utilize magic to the extent a Magic Wielder does, one must have a well developed Magic Cores.

Types of Magic Users

Mages

Mage is a term used for those that can wield magic beyond simply using a magic item; the term also tends to be an umbrella term for anyone who uses magic as their career and source of income (for example The Royal Mage, and often their apprentices, are considered Mages). 

Mages, typically have a stronger Magic core than most people and often develop very strong magic wielding abilities.

In Autara and many other kingdoms, mages only practice light and grey magic as they view dark magic as harmful and morally wrong. Mages that do practice dark magic are looked down upon and are often exiled or otherwise punished if their spells harm people or cause enough damage.

Mage Smiths

Mage Smiths are a special kind of magic user, who rather than wielding magic, imbue spells and enchantments into objects. The term is used to describe any magic user who specializes in making magical objects even if the term mostly brings to mind metal workers who imbue their works with magic. 

Mage Smiths are not restricted from wielding magic, in fact many do so and are also considered Mages. Many Mages will also have some Mage Smithing abilities.

Mage Smiths tend to work with basic spells that help with everyday chores, like cooking spells, as well as protective spells, like a rainproof spell for clothes, meaning that they mainly utilize grey and white magic. They may also use dark magic to create cursed objects, but this is very rare and often looked down upon, very much like the wielding of dark magic.

Due to their knowledge as well as their having acquired more magical abilities, professional mage smiths are very skilled at utilizing and identifying magic items, often even more so than other kinds of magic users.

Witches

The term Witch is used to describe magic users who perform grey and even dark magic with little to no qualms. Witches are often considered to live in isolated areas, be antisocial, and often are self taught magic users. 

All Witches can be considered Mage’s due to their skill in wielding magic, but because they are isolated or otherwise seen as suspicious they are often called witches instead. 

This is one of the blurrier categorizations of magic users due to it being quite subjective, however some magic users do embrace the term for example the Witches of the Woods.
