Irrstland
Irrstland is an alliance between 12 city-states that was created 65 years ago to create a solid border to Ferlbin in the west, although not all 12 were represented at first. The alliance ensures their individual safety against Ferlbin. Each of the 12 City-states govern themselves and the alliance has no say over their individual politics. One obvious advantage of the alliance is the end of infighting between individual city’s. Each City is sworn to offer up 2% of their population to serve in the joint army to fight Urnaah. How they acquire these soldiers is up to each city-state, but they are all subject to the command of 3 generals, who again are subjects of the council and must forswear any other allegiances. At present one of the generals is an Angborg mercenary, selected for his skill and reputation as incorruptible. This is possible as the generals are not seen as subjects of any city-state but of the council. The alliance is in an active border conflict with Urnaah , though the borders have not seen much action in the last years, mostly due to a recent Ferlbin setback in the wildlands.
Structure
The twelve cities each send a representative to the roundtable to rule Irrstland. The selection process is quite unique to Irrstland, and mirrors the way the city councils are run. Seats at the councils and roundtable are not hereditary nor elected but based on a singular form of meritocracy. The amount of taxes paid. By paying the most tax, an individual is deemed to boast several desirable qualities; management of wealth, sacrifice to the common, and loyalty to the city and state. The system was initially deemed to deter idiots from taking office, and in a crude way, it has worked. And thanks to all the taxes paid the walls and roads of Irrstland are the envy of the world.
Culture
A sizable portion of the population are indentured workers, serving in practice as slaves, but with far more freedom and better treatment. The tenure is often limited in time, and indentured work is oftentimes used to pay off a debt, either monetary or for honor. Indentured labour is much more common than in the Kingdom of Dimha as living costs in many of the cities are harsh, in some states it is quite common amongst farm workers as well.
Irrstland is the principal trade nation of the world and holds the greatest merchant navy in existence despite the nation's small size. Their coast is said to sport a thousand ports due to the coast's good suitability for them, few obstacles and good currents, as well as many narrow fjords, provides one of the safest stretches of coastline anywhere for ships to safely reach port. Extensive work has also been undertaken in the last century to improve existing harbors to accommodate larger and better ships. Due to their extensive trading with other nations, their culture has become an amalgamation of different cultural aspects, and the fashion lends strongly from other nations, with trends copying hypes of others. As such the major trade ports sport the largest concentration of tailors and as the seasonal shipping arrives from different corners of the world the fashion follows suit.
Public Agenda
War is the core of Irrstlands foundation, as Urnaah sought to make conquest of the land. When the war was brought to a stalemate two decades ago, the focus has instead shifted to trade and blockading of Urnaah ships and ports.

History
Irrstland is a nation with a lot of internal tensions. Due to their geography, some cities are more in danger from Urnaah, whilst other further to the east rarely see any signs of war other than the men they occasionally send to the border. It is common knowledge that there is a lot of discontent on part of the western lords due to eastern cities only sending an absolute minimum of support to aid in the war.
