Bean Stew

Around the Campfire

For the Nomads, a campfire is the centre of the community. It is the place where people gather in the mornings and evenings, where they talk, play and share. It is more than a central meeting place, it's the heart of their society. There is generally a group of people who are responsible for cooking, and this job may change hands depending on what is being prepared. However, once prepared the food is left out and available throughout the day for anyone who needs it.   Stews are often prepared in the morning and then watched and simmered throughout the day and eaten as or with an evening meal.

Bean Stew

Bean stew is a popular recipe within the clans of the Nomads. There are a lot of varieties of it because it is both hearty and versatile.   It is most commonly eaten during the winter months, from Murkanætt to Nokkoør in the Seasons of Known World, as this is when meat and fresh vegetables are the scarcest. But the ingredients for this dish, tomatoes which can be jarred and kept and beans and spices which can be dried and stored throughout the year, are the sort which are available all year around.   Bean stew is known to be packed with nutritional value, and is often used as a cure for colds and other similar ailments. While this is most commonly a dinner dish and is sometimes served as a side with meat, it can also be eaten warmed up as a breakfast with warm bread. It has also been used as a filling for Fyllbrød.

Hmm, ever cooked a bean stew yourself without canned beans, but dried ones? How do your jars look like you keep the tomatoes in? (They could be dried also) 15 min prep time is very short and 1h for dried beans definitely not enough. But otherwise, I like it! :)
