Grand Inquisitor
The Grand Inquisitor, Mortal leader of the Dragon Hunters Guild, second only to the Archon Neró himself, if one of the most powerful, feared, and respected individuals in the world of errota. He meets with Emperors when he has the time, sends proxies to meet with kings, and commands the most powerful independent martial force the world has ever known.
Qualifications
When a Grand Inquisitor is released from service, either do to death, retirement, or denouncement, a new Grand Inquisitor must be appointed. While normally chosen from the ranks of Inquisitors, it is said anyone may be chosen. It is believed that loyalty, dedication, and devotion play a large role in who is selected, however, at the end of the day the Archon makes the choice and no one truly understand his criteria.
Appointment
The Grand Inquisitor is appointed by the Archon Neró. This is done in a ceremony held in the Citadel of Skulls, named for the many dragon skulls displayed within.
Responsibilities
The Grand Inquisitor is the right hand of Neró. He oversees the major policies and marching orders of the Dragon Hunters Guild, appoints Inquisitors and determines their regional assignments, and mediates disputes between regional branches of the guild. While his days are primarily bureaucratic in nature, do not assume he is all talk. All Grand Inquisitors started out as footmen in the guild and most achieved high levels of martial skill before being appointed to their role. As such they are still required to keep up a level of physical training and combat proficiency.
Benefits
The Grand Inquisitor of the Dragon Hunters Guild is considered to be one of the most powerful mortals in the world of errota. He has the ear of one of the 8 deities and is constantly immersed in its power. Because of this relationship, The Grand Inquisitor can cast water spells without Elemental Shards to power the magic, and he enjoys a longer than normal lifespan (typically about double the species normal).
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
A Grand Inquisitor has never been denounced by the Archon Neró. It is theorized that heresy, swearing fealty to another deity, or adding and abetting a dragon could cause the removal of a Grand Inquisitor.
