Kor'van
The Black Baron
Kor'van, also known as the Black Baron, is the mysterious leader of the Sirasion ACSU force. He has been behind every ACSU operation since its inception, staying completely out of the public spotlight. As Corruption rears its ugly head once more, Kor'van finally steps into the public light. With several Sirasion lifetimes of experience and tactical prowess under his belt and decades of battle scars, when Kor'van shows up, he means business.
"Only a fool fights on a level playing field"
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Kor'van is an old Sirasion and his body reflects that. His body is supported with various cybernetics that keep him alive and functional. However despite this he is by no means disabled, his physical capabilities even surpassing that of the average Sirasion.
Body Features
Kor'van's most notable trait is that his skin lacks its natural blue-green pigment present in most other Sirasions. The result of this is from the assassination attempt made on him by A.I which used a toxin that succeeded in killing him with the side effect of draining all pigment from his skin. Despite the assassination attempt, Kor'van was saved through complex cybernetics, which are present as another striking feature. He often chooses to keep the inner workings of his cybernetics on display, allowing those in his presence to view the complex inner mesh of gears and pistons that keep his muscular tail moving.
His right arm is completely cybernetic, this being where the poison was injected with an amputation being the first attempt to save him. This arm, notably different to the rest of his body notably clicks and whirrs as it moves.
Kor'van's wings were something he opted to have removed as the surgeries were taking place. Caring very little for the symbol of status and attractiveness his wings brought him, instead seeing them as a tactical disadvantage in combat. Instead of removing them completely, Kor'van used the muscles as a basis for a set of weapons unlike any other; a complex assortment of different length, razor sharp blades that he could wield as if they were extensions of himself.
Facial Features
In place of Kor'van's left eye, which was destroyed in his assassination attempt, he has a trinocular vision module attached to the mesh of machinery that keeps the right side of his face intact. The vision module allows him to see in varying states impossible with the natural Sirasion eye such as infrared and in pitch darkness. He can also use it to monitor vital signs in others.
Apparel & Accessories
Kor'van is not one for colour, the only colours he opts to wear when his appearance is necessary are the imperial insignia and those that occur with his vision implant. Otherwise, he has his personalised armour painted in a drab, grey pattern that blends with his dark grey skin tone. contrasting this, Kor'van wears a light grey cloak in line with Imperial rankings. He only wears what is necessary, opting to forgo large pauldrons in favour of freedom of movement over posturing and protection.
Specialized Equipment
Unlike his contemporaries, Kor'van's view on Sirasion Wristblades is more akin with the stealthy approaches taken by the Cult of Trezekh. Instead of a twin blade with one forward and one rear facing blade, his personal wrist weapon is a compact spring blade that he only deploys when needed, which is very rarely. If Kor'van ever has to involve himself in hand to hand combat, he opts to prioritise the use of his wingblades instead, this being such a unique style he perfected himself that he only ever uses the blades in duels to the death, making for very few witnesses to be able to study his tactic first hand.
His cybernetic arm is where Kor'van keeps most of his functional tools, such as a holo-com, heat projector and a hidden laser projector to name a few.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Kor'van was born shortly before the Sirasion Empire's return to the galaxy following its defeat by the Flare Valley Rebels, he was born into a Sirasion family who opted to stay behind when every member of the empire were called back to Siran to escape the wrath of the vengeful rebels. His family became a prominent figure in attempting to re-form the galaxy's view on the Sirasion species and dispel some of the universal hatred felt for them, the wounds of the great uprising still quite fresh.
When the Sirasion Empire returned they released a statement across the galaxy that any Sirasions who lived in the Alliance that a better future awaited them as part of the Sirasion Empire. As such these individuals, families and communities were promised a higher quality of life than what they had in the Alliance. Along with the natural Sirasion 'pack mentality' that saw many drawn to the large, powerful concentration of Sirasion power, Sirasions all over the galaxy abandoned their posts and set off on a pilgrimage to Siran. Kor'van's family were of no such persuasion. Kor'van was working in a low level office management position at the time and he knew that simply due to being a Sirasion his opportunities would be limited in the Alliance, thus he went against his family and travelled to Siran anyway.
Upon arriving to Siran he was welcomed by the imperial leadership and was put to work quickly. He began in a similar position to what he was doing in the Alliance, but this quickly changed when his superior found out he had in depth knowledge of the Alliance's inner workings. As despite his low end management position, Kor'van worked in Alliance logistics. This gave him the knowledge of most of the Alliance's trade routs, supply lines and the people who ran these supply lines.
After the invitation had expired and the war with the Alliance began, the Sirasion Empire issued a notice of treason for all those Sirasions who still helped the Alliance. Kor'van's family were high on that list, both of his parents being leaders of anti-imperial propaganda campaigns. The Sirasion leadership offered Kor'van a significant career advancement if he agreed to help bring them in. Kor'van accepted. Within the week he had his parents in imperial custody and a shiny new promotion. He felt no remorse for what he did, in his mind his parents were the last obstacle from his past keeping him from accomplishing his goals.
Kor'van continued to advance through the imperial leadership until he was eventually granted a seat on the imperial High Council, specifically in the position of law enforcement. Kor'van had shown great capabilities in predicting events before they unfolded, it was said that he could read anyone as if they were a book and find out all of their intentions just from a few questions. As such, Kor'van found his niche in administatory crime fighting and climbed his way to the top .
Despite the fact Kor'van was not a public figure, the Alliance still very much knew who he was and how much of a threat he and his ideals imposed. In raw strength, the Alliance often fell behind the Sirasions, however where they truly came into their own was their ability to sew discord both politically and societally through espionage and implantation of their cultural ideas in imperial worlds to cause a rift between the people and their governments often resulting in violent uprisings with the Alliance stoking these flames by providing arms and advice to those seeking freedom from imperial rule, whether its in the peoples best intentions or not.
Kor'van was expertly in tune with these kind of tactics and would routinely shut down Alliance infiltration on imperial worlds long before it could gather enough strength. As a result, the Alliance began losing the territorial war and deemed something had to be done about Kor'van.
Assassination
The Alliance carefully monitored Kor'van's movements over a period of several months, tracking everywhere he went and his routine down to the last glance. This was difficult considering most of his time was spent on Siran among the political elite. Alliance Intelligence accomplished this with several Sirasion turncoats, who at the time were few and far between. Kor'van knew he was being followed and observed, thus tried to change things up to catch his would be stalkers. Despite catching and brutally torturing one of the turncoats, A.I played on the fact Kor'van's guard would be down just long enough when he caught one of this individuals that a small droid carrying a deadly nerve toxin that clung to the roof of the stalker's mouth could attack when Kor'van got close enough. The droid injected Kor'van's right arm with the deadly substance that ravaged his body and saw him certainly doomed to perish. Kor'van was rushed to hospital as his condition deteriorated, the toxin used on him designed to defeat even the strongest of imperial medicine, and it nearly did. Kor'van's arm was amputated in an attempt to stop the poison from spreading throughout his body. While Sirasions are generally less susceptible to toxins due to the way their blood moves around their body, this poison had been directly designed for their species, as a result Kor'van's body was already beginning to break down. After a several year long battle and many surgeries, Kor'van was deemed to be stable. He was fixed with a number of cybernetic implants to keep his body functioning, opting for enhancement over aesthetics. These attachments brought Kor'van's tactical skill to a whole new level, with his eye piece being able to read peoples body heat and monitor their heartrate, most importantly, he learned the body signs on how to tell an individual was lying to him."Lies are an interesting concept. Across the galaxy with its menagerie of different species with wildly different physiologies, in species that communicate verbally a lie always exhibits the same response of uncertainty and self doubt. Such responses can be read like a book once one has the tools one needs to understand the language"As Kor'van came out of hospital, him surviving was kept secret from everyone, with the Alliance watching for any sign that he had lived. During his absence, rates of rebellion slowly increased, signifying their plan had worked and Kor'van had been replaced by someone less competent. Kor'van insisted be continue his role as head of imperial law enforcement, but in doing so he kept his presence on the role a secret by sending proxies to all of his meetings and anything that required a face to face appearance, or even a holo call. Eventually Kor'van had trained a small cadre of individuals to think just the way he thinks and interpret his orders in the exact way he intended.
The Great Betrayal
Following the betrayal of Terrix, Corruption was at the forefront of galactic concern. As the Empire was taken over in its bloody coup, Kor'van, instead of leaving with a number of other imperial leaders, instead stayed behind and continued to work for the new emperor. However Kor'van knew that the bloody takeover of Terrix would not last, and with Zurrok and his loyal followers still out there the Empire would go through another bloody coup which would decide its fate. As a result, he played both sides so no matter the victor, his future would be secured. Feeding information to both sides. As Zurrok re took the throne and the Empire continued, Kor'van began to develop a keen interest in corruption, now it had become the galaxy spanning threat that it was now considered. He studied it vigorously, its strengths and weaknesses, how it affected the mind and body and more importantly, how it could be exploited. When the Sirasion Anti Corruption Specialist Unit was formed, Kor'van put himself forward for it. He proved incredibly effective at his job, with the empire having a zero tolerance for corruption, individuals indulging in such illicit practises were often considered irredeemable, there for, mercy and concern for legal practise was no longer something Kor'van or his troops had to consider. Kor'van was well and truly off the leash, ruthlessly striking at corruptive cult start-ups and making a spectacle of their annihilation. He continued his role as head of the ACSU throughout the rest of the Galactic War and the Extinction war, all the while remaining completely shrouded in shadow. His cybernetics increased his life expectancy and kept his mind sharp, allowing him to absorb twice the knowledge of the average Sirasion.Out of the Shadows
Corruption is a threat that has been defeated before, however when Regenold opened a corruption gate that could seemingly not be closed and later the maddened Tulock caused the gate to go haywire and consume an entire portion of the galaxy, Kor'van began to realise his shadowy approach to dealing with and eliminating corruption was no longer viable with the ACSU slowly becoming a fully integrated part of the imperial military. As such, public appearances and statements were required, and with the ACSU becoming less secret and it being discovered that a corruptive gate had been opened on Siran, Kor'van was forced to step into the light for the first time in decades. Kor'van has been pulling the strings from the dark, with countless imperial victories being rightfully achieved through his tactical prowess but having gone completely uncredited due to his desire to remain hidden.Employment
Kor'van began his career in the Sirasion empire as a turncoat to his traitorous family and all of the friends he had made while living and growing up as part of the Alliance. Kor'van did not take this decision lightly, but his naturally analytical mind told him his best odds at prosperity was with the newly emerged Sirasion Empire over the Human Galactic Alliance, who would soon, along with the rest of the galaxy, grow to despise the Sirasion species.
Kor'van worked his way up through the ranks quickly as an informant, playing this process like a strategic game, everyone he met along the way just being pawns on the board until he reached one of the highest positions in the Empire; a seat on the High Council who handled all imperial internal affairs. Kor'van had special interest taken in him by Zurrok for his ability to rout out treachery and other such problems long before they would arise. this attention to detail made Kor'van the head of the Sirasion internal policing force throughout the galaxy.
Following the assassination attempt by A.I, Kor'van continued his role from within the shadows, having the Alliance (and most of the Sirasion empire) believe he was dead and using various proxies to do his work.
When Zurrok's traitor son, Terrix, along with Red Venom, managed to overthrow the Emperor, Kor'van did not jump in with the resistance movement to take the throne back, instead he remained at his post playing as a double agent. Kor'van subtly fed information to the resistance fighters, but not for sake of the cause, more for the fact that he knew that Terrix's reign was too impractical to last and that his abject tyranny would be undone sooner or later. As such, Kor'van once again mauevered his game pieces so that when Zurrok took back the throne he was right there, ready to resume his position in the High Council.
Kor'van's major purpose came at the formation of the ACSU, the Sirasion battalion that specialised in routing out and battling Corruption. The secretive Sirasion's aptitudes for pre-emptively stopping rebellions translated well to flushing out cultists and out-witting would be troublemakers that sought practise their malevolent spells. Kor'van has remained as head of the ACSU since his promotion.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Kor'van has been behind most of, if not all of the ACSU's major victories since the inception of the organization. However in his signature fashion he has remained un-credited for many of his greatest deeds as a leader, instead allowing the praise to be passed on to others in order to keep his general anonymity up.
As such, Kor'van's achievements often get missed, but that does not make them any less important to the grand scheme of the galaxy.
Intellectual Characteristics
"Many Sirasion commanders will seek to gain glory over their enemies by besting them in a challenge of tactical skill or raw strength. Not Kor'van. If you're up against him, you should already know that you're fighting at a disadvantage. for he would not have taken the battle at all unless he was already one step ahead of you."Kor'van can easily be considered a tactical genius. Everything he does is, to him, another move on the big game board of life. Since he was young he learned the only person he could truly trust and rely on was himself, as such, everyone else was merely a tool in accomplishing his own goals. Kor'van's incredibly analytical mindset sees him carefully choosing his words in every conversation the same way and with the same considerations and expectant outcomes as moving troops on a battlefield. Everything he says has some sort of extra connotation and is set in place to accomplish a specific goal or learn a specific peace of information. This style of thinking and communication has been compared to that of droids, Kor'van himself being noted as having a lack of empathy, though despite the tough exterior this Sirasion does feel and understand emotions, even if it is just another method of getting one over on his quarry. Kor'van has at times been compared to Zurrok in his intellectual capabilities, but where Zurrok is an unparalleled technological innovator, Kor'van does the same with social and tactical manipulation.
