The Yellow Sign

The Yellow Sign is one of a number of symbols used by worshippers of the Star Gods. It seems to represent a specific god, in this case, a being referred both to Hastur, or the King in Yellow. It has the swept look of an Elder Sign, with the points of the star being swept gently to one direction, and an eye-like centre. It is usually coloured yellow on a reddish background. Many cults with strong bardic traditions seem to favour this sign.   In the cults the more points it has determines the rank. One upwards being the lowest, followed by one to the right when facing it, then the left, followed by one pointing down on the right, finally the left. Many use rituals, and to identify each other with the saying: "Have you found the Yellow Sign?" implying more meaning to it. It is rumoured that a few high ranking members & creatures have this form naturally through the skin & flesh on their torsos, and are quite insane.   Sometimes these act as marks to places claimed both by the cults & by the King in Yellow, and used to mark pathways to a hidden dimension where Carcosa resides. Also, it is common for the symbol to used in rituals, where it is marked out in yellow bile, or other yellow tinged organic material (though it is best left unmentioned as to what this material is or how it is got).   Studies by some scholars have found that a few of these used by rituals leave behind a permanent mark that acts to draw in extremely disturbed individuals, as well as Star Children in service to the King in Yellow, and all the while acting as a doorway to & from Carcosa. Anyone who travels through it from Carcosa seems to have their memory wiped of most what lies on the other side, and has a constant memory of the symbol resurfacing regularly with strange sensations wracking their bodies when they rest.
