Matter Reclamation Units

These are usually in the form a dumpster in an alley, though there are bigger units used at Trident Coalition Armed Forces bases and other large facilities.

There’s generally a receptacle for the trash, like the main part of the dumpster. When it’s full you just close the lid and press the button. The contents of the unit are broken down and turned into energy, and stored in a power module that then can be used to power just about anything, that doesn’t require a Star in a Jar Fusion Reactor for power source. The procedure is very noisy, so it’s not advisable to turn it on in residential areas at night.

Several District Attorneys have raised objections that the dumpsters can be used to dispose of dead bodies, and should be modified to prevent that. Unfortunately all those attorneys have vanished without a trace, on nights when the nearby Matter Reclamation Dumpsters went off in the middle of the night.
