Half-Elf

With a foot in both Elf and Human worlds, half-elves are either blessed with the best of both worlds or cursed with the disdain of their parents.   A half-elf may be born of an elf father and human mother or vice versa. The pairing doesn't seem to matter much to the genetics of the child. Half-elves are able to have children, but see the section on "Second Generation" elves below.   Half-elves are tolerated by full elves and generally get along well with humans. Many half-elves are noble on their human side and thus bring a semblance of their elven heritage to the nobility of mankind. Noble half-elves are esteemed ambassadors between the species.   Half-elf children born of lower station are less regarded, but not ill-treated by either species, per se. Humans of the same social rank as a half-elf will generally defer to the half-elf automatically. Elves of the same rank will think themselves ever so slightly superior.

Second Generation Mixed-Elves

the term "half-elf" generally only applies to the direct child of an elf and a human. A "quarter-elf"(the child of a half-elf and a human) is almost entirely human, and is generally considered fully human.   A "three-quarter-elf"(child of a half-elf and an elf) is considered a full elf, but rarely one in high honor. The natural lifespan of three-quarter-elves is unknown, none have died of natural causes, so they may be as immortal as full elves. Or they may only live a few centuries, only time will tell.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Unlike elves, half-elf males can grow beards like humans. Unlike humans, half-elves look young for a very long time.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Half-elves may have the pointed ears of their elven parents, or may not. They tend to have a "finer" bone structure than their human parents, with many features that humans consider beautiful.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Depends on which parent raised the half elf. Ironically, elven parents tend to give half-elves human sounding names, while human parents do the opposite.

History

Half-elves are a race that can never self-propigate, they are only the children of their parent races. they don't have their own customs or traditions, only what they borrow from their parents.
