Personal history
Emedao was born to a long line of Beast Hunters - a noble profession, though often seen as dangerous and foolhardy in the current era. Emedao grew up in traveling camps of hunters, learning survival skills and combat from the time she could walk. Her bedtime stories were the tales of past hunts the band shared over their fires, and she never dreamed of any other kind of life. As Emedao grew older, she was often praised as the strongest hunter her family had ever seen - but this attention made it difficult for her to find peers.
There were few children that traveled with hunting bands - most hunters would retire form the hunting life or leave until their children were old enough to begin proper training. Because of this, Emedao found it difficult to connect with others her own age - having so little in common, and so much repute within her profession, she was often treated with respectful difference. This created a distance she didn't know how to breech, though she very much wanted to.
So when her hunting band recruited a talented mercenary named Jeakke that was constantly smiling and laughing, Emedao wasn't at first sure what to make of the woman. But when she saw Jeakke fight, moving in ways Emedao hadn't thought was even possible, she fell head over heels. Despite her struggles with socializing, Emedao was drawn to the first person her age that could rival her in pure combat ability - and discovered Jeakke was actually as confused by their peers as she was.
The two quickly bonded over their shared struggles and love of combat, and married after only one decade of courtship. Their families shared in their joy - and it wasn't long before they had their son, Jurao.
However, this caused a rift between Jeakke and her twin sister, who thought the hunting lifestyle was too dangerous for a child. Reflecting on her own childhood, Emedao thought perhaps it would be could to take a break and allow their son to grow around children his own age - and after having time to calm down and listen to Emedao's point of view, Jeakke also agreed to take a break for their son's sake.
Before they could, though, the pair died fighting an Ice Shriek that attacked their camp.
