Champion Summoning - Competition

A ritual the gods gifted the deposed rulers who would come to be known as the Nine Reborn in order to fight the Seven False Demon Kings that invaded their realm.   It is a ritual which consumes a massive amount of magical energy, so much so that it is only performed once a century. The gods themselves powered the very first summoning, but no more beyond that one. This is gathered from citizens in small portions over the course of the century. 
The summoning forms a bridge from the Thirteen Realms to the world of the Champions, bringing over their souls. While the gods no longer power the ritual, they do intervene to craft new bodies for the Champions' aetherially charged souls, and to guide their power into the form the summoned wishes it to take. From impossible physical abilities to vast magic power or even intelligent weaponry, Champions have asked for a variety of manifestations of power. This power puts them at least on par with the strongest of demons - a large, physically resiliant and imposing species difficult for most regular humans to defeat without large numbers.
