Nightingale Close

Nightingale Close is a beautiful condominium development in the prosperous Green Hills district of Nashville. It consists of a row of townhouses that face a small park across the street. Green Hills is, as one Nashville native put it, "condo central," but Nightingale Close is distinctive for its architecture and green space.   The condominiums are Georgian-style townhouses, as if the Royal Crescent in Bath, England, decided to pull up stakes and move to Nashville. Inside, the townhouses still have an old-fashioned aesthetic--crown molding, hardwood floors, carved wooden banisters on the staircases. But the kitchens and bathrooms boast all the modern conveniences and amenities, and cable and Internet wiring were built in. Every condo has at least three bedrooms; some have as many as five. Each townhouse has three floors and its own underground two-car garage as well.   Nightingale Close faces what is essentially a very small park with trees and benches. There is enough room for children to run and play and people to exercise their dogs, but not enough room for any organized sports. A path runs around the outer edge of the park; it's a quarter-mile track and often used by runners. Roses, irises, tulips, daffodils, lilies, and other perennial flowers are planted beside the track alongside the iron fence. The park is technically private and maintained by the residents of Nightingale Close, but locals from nearby complexes have been known to relax in the park as well. Behind the condominium building is another green space: about fifty yards of trees, which separates Nightingale Close from their nearest neighbors, another condominium complex (which isn't nearly as beautiful or nice).   The dead-end road leading to Nightingale Close is also called Nightingale Close. It ends in a turn-around / cul-de-sac for ease of driving.   The condominiums in Nightingale Close are very expensive, even for Green Hills. But Nightingale Close is exclusive, beautiful, and quiet, and a townhouse in Nightingale Close will sell within hours.

Demographics

The residents of Nightingale Close tend to be the quietly rich and those who are comfortably well-off.  Many owners of condominiums in the development are recording executives or artists who only reside in the neighborhood part-time.

Government

Nightingale Close has a home-owners' board.  The board members are volunteers; if there are more volunteers than spots on the board, the residents have an election.  The board collects dues and oversees the exterior maintenance of the condominiums, the road, and the park.

History

Nightingale Close was built in 1996 by private developer who wished to have an elegant and well-built residence, as opposed to the usual boxy, cheap, and ugly fare available during the real estate boom.  He bought a relatively large parcel of land in Green Hills that already had a house in disrepair, tore down the house, and built the condos and the park.  The rumor is that the developer still owns a condo in the complex.
