Talented Nashville

To the mundane, Nashville, Tennessee is famous for many things. It is the home of country music, the location of the Grand Old Opry, the site of a Civil War battle, the city named for a Revolutionary War general. It hosts several thriving industries: music recording, publishing, health care. It hosts more than a dozen universities. It is the state capital of Tennessee.   To the Talented (see The Talent ), Nashville is the regional capital of the Southeast. As the regional hub for the Talented, Nashville hosts branch offices of the U.S. Department of Integrated Services (DIS). The DIS Building, Nashville, a nondescript, generic brick building with a flat roof and large, glass windows, is hidden in plain sight among the other mundane government buildings downtown near Rosa L. Parks Avenue, and is difficult to distinguish from other government offices. The DIS building is linked to the national interstate Portal network, and workers at the Nashville office commute via nearby Portals in other cities.   Talented people (mages) are embedded in other federal and state offices in Nashville, as well as in the local universities.   Talented Law Enforcement occupies a plain, square, white tower in Northwest Nashville's industrial district (slightly northwest of Tennessee State University). The law enforcement units include the Seraphim, the Regulars, Special Curse Crimes, and M-Forensics.   Most importantly, St. Augustine's School for the Talented is located in Percy Warner Park in southwest Nashville. Although this state park is popular with hikers and dogwalkers for its natural beauty and reasonably easy trails, the park is extensive enough that the school is well-hidden in a little known section reached only by a dirt road and the Portal network.   Because of its central location, government importance, and employment opportunities, many Talented people reside in Nashville and the surrounding towns. The more affluent may gravitate to the richer neighborhoods such as Belle Meade or the richer suburbs such as Brentwood or Morris Creek. Those who work at the DIS may choose to live north of town in Gallatin or east of town in Donelson or Mount Juliet; the commute is relatively straightforward on the interstates. Teachers at St. Augustine's tend to live in the south end of town, and because their money is more limited, they live in the more affordable sections of Nashville near Old Hickory Boulevard and Bell Road, or just east in Antioch.
