Azzimon

Azzimon was an orthon bounty hunter that operated in Avernus throughout the 15th century before being killed by the Lost Star Detectives in 1497.

History

At some point prior to the early 15th century CR, Azzimon served in one of the infernal Blood Legions, rising to the rank of primus in the 9th cohort of the 497th infantry division.
As part of the Blood Legions, Azzimon was in service during the start of the Rift War in 1411, when a swarm of a baatorians overran large swatchs of Avernus throwing the military command of Hell into chaos. As structure broke down, Azzimon and his cohort were forced back and then back again, unable to gain a foothold against the baatorian threat.
The tides changed when the archdevil Zariel was freed from her imprisonment by Tiamat and began rallying the forces of Hell to counter attack the baatorians. That fateful counter attack was the Battle of Lost Memories, where devils charged baatorian defenses along the River Styx, in many cases fighting in the memory-erasing waters in brutal, bloody combat. Azzimon was among the unlucky devils thrown into the waters, and in fact he almost drowned in the Styx were he not pulled from the dark waters by a succubus optio from the In-ni-ma division, Delle Bellfiend. The two survived the battle, but Azzimon lost many of his oldest memories forever to the Styx.
Unable to readapt to military command, Azzimon left the formal Blood Legions before the end of the Rift War, operating instead as a bounty hunter in Avernus, often taking up contracts put out by the archduke of Avernus or other members of the Dark Eight. He was joined by Delle, and though the two were never truly friends, and were often rivals when trying to cash in on the same bounty, they did hold a respect for one another.
In 1497, both Azzimon and Delle were made aware of a bounty to deliver the Shield of the Hidden Lord to Zariel, now archduke of Avernus. The shield was in the possession of the Lost Star Detectives in the recently damned city of Elturel. Azzimon first confronted the Detectives in the the mansion childhood home of Xifira Mistmore before later attacking them at a distance while the Detectives were crossing one of the city's bridges and fighting Delle. However, the Detectives managed to kill Delle, shocking Azzimon and causing him to retreat.
Later, in Fort Knucklebones, Azzimon confronted the Detectives on neutral ground, explaining his history with Delle and offered to make a deal for the shield, knowing it would be more difficult to obtain with the adventurers on the Avernian plane proper. He was rebuffed, however, and followed the Detectives on their way to Bel's Forge, where he was ambushed and killed by them.

Azzimon was a fierce warrior and skilled tracker, owing to his trade as a bounty hunter. He preferred to fight from a distance with his custom crossbow, weakening his targets with traps or other debilitating effects.
