Captain Barret "Flintstriker" Balthier
Captain Flintstriker was born on the sea, on the ship he would call home his entire life, in the year 1502 PS. His father was the renowned pirate, Captain Emberheart. His mother, unfortunately, died in childbirth, but Flintstriker had no lack of love and family in his life. He grew up alongside his best mate, son of the current Bosun, Bucky Blackeye, who would go on to become his Bosun.
Captain Flintstriker carried on his family's unique pirate legacy, in that he strove to better the world through his piracy. He also inherited his father's obsession with fire. His bond with his officers was strong; his First Mate was his father figure, his father's best friend, Gar Grimfang; his Bosun was the man he considered a brother, Bucky Blackeye; his Quartermaster was his dear friend, the woman he met in his youth, who he helped rescue from near-slavery, Miranda Chainbreaker; and his Cook was... well, his Cook was his babysitter, and someone he respected greatly, Snarki the Kobold.
At the age of 20, eager to increase his renown even further, Flintstriker decided to explore the Volcano of Kossuth, a place most considered entirely off limits due to the dangerous eruptions and rumors of elementals running amok. His crew went part way with him until they reached a temple in the volcano. The others sensed the great danger within, but the very heat radiating from within seemed to call to Flintstriker. He ordered his crew to return to the ship before journeying further into the temple.
At the heart of the temple, Flintstriker gazed upon a sight that made his heart pound longingly in his chest--a beautiful woman made of fire. She rose from her obsidian throne, looking like a goddess of flame. After a long moment spent staring down at the silent pirate captain, she made her way down the stairs until she was only a few feet away from the man who stood, stunned, in her presence. The heat of her was intense, and Flintstriker was intoxicated.
She was Efreeti, one of the guardian Genie's of the Shatterlands, and in time, she fell prey to Flintstriker's charm and they developed a romantic relationship. She was, at first, hesitant to accept when he asked for her hand in marriage, only because of her position as a guardian diety of the world, but in time she conceded, and in 1527, five years after their first meeting, she became Flintstriker's wife.
He visited her often, and she even left her temple with him from time to time, bestowing the flame-protection upon the ship that remains to this day. On the day of their wedding, the ship gained its new name: Efreeti's Fortune. Prior to that day, the ship had been known as Flame's Fortune
Efreeti could not remain away from her temple for too long, but they were happily in love, joyful for every minute they did spend together, and after five years of marriage, they brought their children into the world. Ember and Flint, the Genasi infants, were beloved by the entire crew, but most of all, by their parents.
