Summer Court

The Court of Flame is a place of vivid intensity and extremes, and yet there is also a purity to them for nothing is more sacred among Summer fae than the honing of their focus and skills, giving up that which does not serve their needs. They are a court of passion, of excess, embracing the sharp edges of temper and desire, to live a wildly brilliant existence. A common motto for many is fighting hard and fucking hard. For some there is love in the passion, for others it is simply just another way to express the fervor that lives within their souls. The court is a place of heat, indolence and raw power that is honed through conflict and challenge; Summer is known to be uncompromising but also accepting of all a soul has to offer. This is the power of fullness, of totality. While the warriors are the most famous of Summer Court there is also equal reverence paid to lovers, that is courtesans of pleasure. Two sides of the same blade by Summer thoughts, with just as much art honed in their craft.   Among the Summer fae there is a wide range of personalities and approaches to life, those who live on the central island of the flame, in lush jungle or along the coast in sea side villages tend to be the more apt to indulge hedonistically in the open, to shamelessly seek what they want. Those who come from the searing desert plains or the high plateaus are more circumspect among outsiders. All of them know how to defend themselves, if not also others as being born into Summer sees them attending the free education provided by the Sunburst Guard throughout the realm. It is thought to be the duty of every being to attend, to learn of history, languages, tactics, self defense, pleasure and other core subjects; yet this is the basic standard of education in summer, and those who wish to pursue further training may apply to Embers, the order of courtesans and tactics focus, or to the Sunburst Guard's ranks where warriors are made. The lucky few who excel in either order might find themselves given a place among the Obsidian Blades, the best of the best, who guard the Unburning King or remain in the shadows.   Summer holds the standing army of the faerie, commanding the Wild Hunt, and accepts those of other courts who wish to be trained. No fiercer warriors exist beyond those trained in the Summer Isles, indeed all those who serve as the Royal Guard of the other Courts train here to master not only their magics and weapons but also themselves. It is a place that values sharp honesty, valor and integrity.

Etiquette in Summer

The Summer Court is a place of dual natures, burning hot with passion, and yet honed discipline sharp as their blades. Beyond military service and battlefields there is a sense of freedom and liberation, yet even there the respect for authority figures remains, and no Summer bound would hesitate to obey a command given in a time of peril. Authority, in Summer, after all is earned, by dedication and sweat, and respect given to commanders is in turn given back to the commanded. This applies both to the Sunburst Guard and authority within communities. A poor leader will never last.   Formal titles are used in times of training, battle and in any military space, meticulously, but not meanly. A poor leader rarely lasts, so sacred is the truth between leaders and those who follow. They are also used without fail within the Seat of Truth, as it is a fortress and a place of war. It is why the Summer King Xin built the pleasure palace in Flameheart, as an informal space for the Summer Court to gather and relax.

Meeting the King:

Upon meeting the King, the loosely-held fingers of one’s hand should be touched to the heart. This is followed by a curtsy or bow, and is expected. The touching of the hand and fingers upon the breast represents the fire in one’s heart. And the bow and curtsy that follows show one’s discipline and respect. "Fire - Tempered."

Addressing the King:

‘Your Majesty,’ just once, when one first meets the King. It is symbolic of the initial spark that lights the forge - in this case, the start of one’s relationship with the King. Afterward, ‘my King,’ ‘your Grace,’ or titles more directly tied to Summer as Unburning King, Summer King, etc. There is one location and one event where adherence to this etiquette is dropped. All who enter the pleasure palace of Flameheart are expected to shed formality and allow the fire of passion to burn free. And during the Day of Light held on the solstice where Summer is at its apex; where all are to shed formality to give way to indulgence. These moments show the duality of Summer, for decadent passion and sharpened discipline must both have their place and be respected.
