Ritan War

The Ritan War is a multi-phasic, centuries long conflict that began in the Thorhil system between the male and female populations of Hartika Rita. The exact nature of why is unknown, but at some point in the past the entire male population of Hartika Rita was blamed for the initial outbreak of their ongoing issues with the Funghouls.   The war itself didn't actually start until decades after the Funghoul outbreak when the post Scream infrastructural issues created an opportinuty for the male Ritans to revolt. The subsequent fighting was bloodly and losses were heavy on both sides, but eventually the males earned the right to leave the planet and settle the 4th world of the system for themselves. In this exodus of the male population, numerous males chose to stay behind to remain with family, even if it meant living a life of oppression. Additionally, just a many women chose to go along with their men for the sake of keeping a family together. The end result was another war.   For a whole generation peace was known between the worlds of Hartika Rita and Polymen. Having lost their labor and security force, the women of Hartika Rita began to resent the male population that had left the planet. Leveraging the fact that several thousand women accompanied the males to Polymen, a few political powers on Hartika Rita managed to convince the population that the women taken to Polymen were taken by force. The fervor that started was enough to start a full scale conflict that would pass through periods of high and low activity for the next 4 centuries.   Aproximately three centuries ago the Ritan War saw the worst attrocities it would. Emnity between the two states had grown so hostile that, without the Peremeter Agency's oversight, the two sides began weaponizing spike drives to use as planet killers. What followed was a horrific arms race where each side raced to create more planet killers than the other. Some of these weapons were used in smaller scale engagements across the system, and massive ammounts of resources were devoted to building defenses against such an attack. In the end, both sides won...and both sides lost. In a catastrophy known as The Fall, WSDs were launched at both worlds and both worlds were razed back to the stone age. A wound the whole system has spent the last three centuries recovering from.
