Equites (Ek-wi-teez)
The Equites (or Knights) are monstrosities that haunt the continent of Iustitia in Malum Auctori. These creatures are the risen-again Auctori soldiers from the War Against Evil, their flesh bonded with their armour, their mortal injuries still visible and utterly apparent. While the exact cause of the Equites’ existence is still unknown it stands to reason that it is some kind of flow-on effect from the Malum’s terraforming devices during the war. The first sightings and recordings of the Equites came about when the Malum devastated Iustitia, indicating that whatever caused a change in the environment of Malum Auctori also caused a change in the deceased Auctori’s genetic structure.
Equites are tragic beings, having once been soldiers that worked to quell the cataclysm that the Malum attempted to inflict upon their World, now turned into monsters that attack any living thing. Worse still, they are unable to be killed, forever reconstructing their bodies and resurrecting upon being slayed. They are honoured by the Auctori for their sacrifice, and each one has been given a name and title in reverence of their duty.
The Instigation Prevention Soldiers of Nero (IPS-N) mechs were inspired by the Equites. Their creator reportedly wanted to remind the Malum of the horrors that they inflicted upon the Auctori, and thus designed the mechs in the Equites’ image. However, it is still up for debate as to which is more dangerous: a Knight, or a SOLDIER.
