Watertown

Watertown is one of the four corner cities of the Ul Salvation ramp network (a series of platforms and walkways that extend out of the Ul for hundreds of kilometers). It is the southern most corner by Fishfolk standards. It was founded by water genasi studying the properties of the water pouring out of the Ul once whale travel became prevalent in the Droplets of Turm. Though the genasi still hold substantial influence over the city, it has since become a hub of trade for the Outer Isle Trade Company who are investing greatly into blimp and balloon technology to faze out of their reliance on flying whales. Other research and development facilities litter the city, with scientists and religious scholars from all over the Droplets of Turm coming to study the Ul.

Demographics

While most are fishfolk from Turm, mainly water genasi, there is a large population of accursed living in Watertown to profit off the metalworks and transportation industry there.

Government

Watertown is governed by the Outer Isles Trade Company, with the company assigning certain colonels, lords, or officials within their company to run the city. The city is thus company property, not a part of any nation. This gives it a strange liberty, and at times almost a pirate like state. There have been many international complaints that Watertown houses the Giff Consortium and other notorious organizations (one of which was the Gis Revenus Gojira).

Industry & Trade

Its main industry is metal and technology, and it is a hub for trade for the whole world. Most flying whale routes pass through here, even if it is just to stop before getting to their final destination.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of Watertown is different to most cities, as it is built on the extending networks of metal platforms, aqueducts, and pipes extending out of the Ul. As there is no earth to dig into, the city could not make the foundation for taller buildings and walls and such. Rather, using the proven stable platforms available, they built extensive low structures that were welded to the steel network. While they try to mask it with paint and imported plants, this is a city of metal scrap. And if you fall from the many holes throughout the city, prepare to fall for a long time. Also, many of its citizens live and work in structures held up by air balloons.

Districts

Helium Plus: This district has been allocated to the research and development of air travel technology. Much of the development of Turm's air capabilities outside of the whales is done here. You would find airfields and factories here. Many disregard the Giff influence over this district, with many even claiming that it is run by the Giff Consortium, because of the technology it provides this world.   Clove District: A residential district housing the Accursed workers who work at the airfields of Helium Plus, the households of Rusty Walkways, the train station of One-Way and other assortment of jobs throughout the city. It is quasi-independent from the rest of the city, with its own municipal government that works on the behalf of the city's accursed. There are also rumors that they have their own hidden railroad system to get to and from the Ul, one where they do not need to report to the OITC. An odd thing for foreigners, as most the staff of the official railway in One Way looks to be run by accursed.   Rusty Walkways: Despite its name, this is the wealthy district of Watertown. The families that made bank off the trade and industry that came from this town needed a spot to build their lavish homes away from the bustle and grime of business. While much of houses wealthy businessfish, a group of Naga have also made a claim over this district. At times, there is tension and conflict because of this, though money is often a temporary solution that the locals use.   OITC District: The financial district. Offices and banks abound here, dealing with trade throughout the Droplets of Turm. It houses the great Dam of Watertown, the only fortress in the region. Once a structure built for Spring long ago by her undead minions years before any fishfolk made it to Ul Salvation, it is now the base of operations for the ruler of Watertown.   One Way: The main train station from Watertown to Ul Salvation proper could be found here. It is a fairly empty and somewhat haunted district of the city. While it houses centers for research or worship of the Ul, most of it is left for the use of train. It is called One Way because most those who get on the train never return. A close look at the passengers would show that many of them are not dead.   Station District: This is the logistics district where flying whales bring their goods for trade or storage. It houses many inns and hotels for the tourists passing through.    Metal Harvest: A district set aside for the foundries and other metalworks factories. Metal is harvested from the extensive platform network throughout Ul Salvation, and is shipped over to district to be melted down into usable iron and steel. This district has been plagued by rust monsters ever since that invasive species was brought over by anti-OITC protesters.   Turm District: A residential district for the Fishfolk. Considered the oldest district, as water genasi have settled here since the whales flew to Ul Salvation.

Guilds and Factions

The OITC is the main force in this city, but people could find underground syndicates such as the Giff Consortium and the Gis Revenus Gojira Spring Division.   There are also the Watertown Catchers, a guild of wyvern riders who work at catching people and things that fall off the edges of Watertown. This is not a charity. People who fall must pay the fine, and whatever falls is subject to be claimed by the Catchers.

History

The city was founded in 1413, not long after flying whales became a common use means of travel.   In 1570, there was a terrorist attack in the OITC district. This attack claimed the lives of six fishfolk. While the culprit was Jacian of the Gis Revenus, they were able to direct the blame to the Giff Consortium. Tensions are high, as the OITC do not want to start open war with the Consortium, afraid at how that would affect trade.
