The Ratcatchers

The Ratcatchers are an adventuring guild formed after the misadventures of a party of traveling minstrels of the Heel's and Laughter troupe. The original party was formed by a tiefling minstrel named Ralrius, an earth genasi named Xylene, a crippled Morish halfling cleric named Piper, her husband, a green dragon named Brithe, and two orphan children, a goblin girl named Ilee Fella, and a gnome boy named Kourend. Their first adventures were haphazard and very episodic, but when their name became more well known, Xylene resumed his pursuits in the study of "The Wish, the Elixir, and the Philosophy." This brought the party to Dakath, seeking the Elixir, which is where they set up shop.

Culture

One tradition amongst the Ratcatchers is the Heeling, inherited from their ties to the Heel and Laughter entertainment troupe that the founders were once a part of. The Heeling consists of circumnavigating the continent helping those along the way. Their latest Heeling was in 1130, having had a dry period since the start of the twelfth century and the Eternal invasion.

Public Agenda

The ratcatchers tend to seek interesting jobs that lean towards the common good. They are not a mercenary company, so violent quests or political partisonship are off the table. Legend, curiosities, and rumours of curses intrigue them the most. But, this makes their missions rare and long, not popular for the average adventurer. Thus, their members are low. Yet, their renown is unmatched when it comes to the obscure mysteries of the Veritian Leaf.

History

In 1086, Xylene led a group of Ratcatchers to the Cosmic Observatory seeking the mythical "Philosophy" from the folk tale "The Wish, the Elixir, and the Philosophy." This led to a near Truth plague outbreak, as the Philosophy was a Mineosian celestial of Truth. They were capable to seal it until 1102 when the Eternal Empire invaded.
