The Pelorian Revival

On the Veritian Leaf, the Lesser Races came from a land which worshipped the sun god Pelor. The Church of Veritas cleansed all knowledge of the faith after the cult moved into Neih at the start of the Veritian Calendar (year 0). Yet, during the Veritian Dark Ages, the year 634, a swindler named Elliot Trabador looted a fey cache and found old scrolls on the Pelorian Faith. Seeing it as a means to profit, he started a cult following Pelor. He could not foresee his success, as Pelor was a real entity and the region was hungry for spirituality. He founded the city of Devout near Mount Trephis, and began to expand the revival there. It is still a minor religion on the Veritian Leaf, with most of its tenants located in Tumult and around the city of Devout.

Structure

The Pelorian Revival is an organized religion with a high priest at the head. This high priest then has a council of bishops residing over districts where the revival has many members. The movement also has priests, nuns, monks and friars to preside over smaller congregations.

Culture

Much of their culture is similar to Summer Worship, as they are highly influenced by it, but they deny the rest of the cosmology of Veritas, thinking that their worship of Pelor will free them from the cycle. But they are far more strict then Summer Worship, seeking holiness and righteousness more than joy and pleasure. One must remember that this is not authentic Pelor worship, but rather an interpretation made by the rediscovery of documents. It is highly influenced by methods of the Church of Veritas.

Public Agenda

Service to the poor is a large element of their public agenda. They are popular amongst the lower classes because of it.

History

The Pelorian Revival never became that strong outside of the western regions between the First and Fifth Minor Veins, and did not get much further then Devout until after the Dragon Blight. The Era of Kings is when they saw the greatest expansion, as they were able to construct several cathedrals in Tumult, Grief and Devout. Things were looking good for them until the Second Minesosian Crusade, who made all foreign faiths heretical crimes. In 1037, they raised the Pelorian Stronghold of Devout. Though some of the structure of the Pelorian Church remains, it is heavily persecuted by the Mineosians. The current High Priest is in hiding.   A second event that hit the Pelorian Revival was the Bloodmist. Caused by Neih cutting the hand of Pelor, this region was hit by three celestial meteors which became affected by the blood of a god. It is west of Devout, and is home to one of the the Revivals most famous convents. This began in 1040, after a resurrections fiasco in Crossroads. The region is still infected with the bloodmist, and a darker sect of the Pelorian Revival is emerging from it.

Disbandment

After the Bloodmist, there was a schism within this church. This schism was between worship of the blood or not. As Pelor abandoned Neih after his cut, the blood worshippers had more power syphoning off of the Bloodmist, and thus overpowered and eventually consumed the other half of Pelorian worship. This, added with the Mineosian crusade to the north and the Neih worship revival in Tumult to the south, the Pelorian Revival was ended.
