Personal history

Lady Mirabel was born in Val'ul to the archmage of House Abjuration. As House Abjuration, they were most concerned with the protection of the city-state. Thus, Lady Mirabel became an apt diplomat, bringing her throughout the Southern Farmlands and Tumult. This put her in contact with Prince Bedrich who she at first maintained a professional relationship with, but it soon became love.   After the Felicity Ball of 1040, Lady Sofia Mirabel had to return to Val'ul to deal with damage control. While there, she got engulfed in the political debate amongst the archmages about joining the plan to kill Resentment that Vox, the paraclete of Uz, inspired. This claimed her attention away from Tumult, which kept her from learning of King Iscalon's death and Bedrich's disappearance until it was too late. She (with the help of Lady Nymira Fenfyx) pushed Lord Kourend Salmonpuddle, the one who informed her of Bedrich's disappearance, to find Bedrich and rescue him. She in the meantime tried to keep Val'ul from Vox's plan. She failed, and Resentment was summoned. She only survived that because Vincent Netherridge placed Val'ul in a temporal bubble until a party returned later (led by Malvo, a person not high in her esteem until the rescue) to free her.   She could not help save her city from the dragon of bitterness, and her father was much concerned for her safety. Thus she was sent to her fiancé in Felicity, though Malvo warned her that King Bedrich has changed under the power of the Lantern of Sorrow he acquired from Doctor Caskajaro. She takes this to heart, and hopes to find a way to redeem Bedrich. While she still married Bedrich and had a kid with him, she never fully accepted his obsession with the Lantern and fighting the Dormant. During the decade of war, Lady Mirabel got in contact with the celestial Jack Frost and concocted a plan to destroy the Lantern. But to do so, she needed a diversion. So she sabotaged a peace conference with the Sovereign Peoples of Neih leading to a major conflict with them.   Her plan failed in the end as the heroes of the SPN were quicker to the draw than her ally Jack. She was befuddled by their arguments as she guarded the way to Bedrich in their moving frozen fortress, and the heroes than killed Bedrich. While Jack Frost did show up after and destroyed the Lantern with his anti-Spring staff, it was too late for her love.   The queen of Tumult than vanished with her lover's corpse. She would bury him in the Ulian Sea where her home of Val'ul once was. Only her and Whitcomb were present at the funeral. There she would remain. Her father would join her for the waning years of his life, but her son would be sent off in fear that the new king of Tumult would kill him.   Loyalists to her built her a manor along the sea, and there she remained the rest of her life. Mirabel did not do well after her plan led to the death of her love, and her mind broke. The hero Malvo did not want her to suffer, so he sent the hero Larkin to treat her. Larkin gave her a ring of Mind Shielding (the one that held the soul of Tarkin Darkfoot) and it took the brunt of her psychological suffering. This helped heal the rift between her and the heroes, and thus her son Whitcomb's also. She would take this treatment until her death in 1108.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She wants to redeem King Bedrich from the influence of the Drowned Lady.   She hopes to find a place for all the survivors of the disappearance of Val'ul, and maybe one day reclaim the city itself from the clutches of Tid Navarende, the Hahlian time god.

Social

Contacts & Relations

As the new queen of Tumult and the daughter of the last archmage of Val'ul, Lady Mirabel has her feet in two worlds who are not technically allies. Her father leads the Val'ul diaspora with Malvo and his gang, which are not the most openly friendly individuals with King Bedrich, though Bedrich is not aware of this animosity. She tries to be the bridge between the two parties.   She is also friends with Elia Meadowgrove, paladin of Summer, as she spent a couple months as a musician for the Mirabel household during her undead phase.   She was mortal frenemies with Nymira Fenfyx, as the two had a petty magical rivalry throughout their youth. They were quite similar though, and if Nymira lived through the Demon Troubles of Dusk, they may had become good friends.
