Verity

Saint Verity (a.k.a. The Crystal Lady, The Six-Winged Seraph)

A Tech-Priestess of the Mechanicum who accompanied the Emperor after He came to Mars and established the Treaty of Olympus Mons, Verity came to Ophelia VII and, after the Garrison were defeated, fought the Seraph, merging with it and being imprisoned inside the Crystal Vault for 10,000 years.

History

Youth and Early Career

The woman who would become known as Verity was born on Mars in the late 30th millennium and was initiated into the mysteries of the Cult of the Machine and became a Tech-Priestess of the Mechanicum. Ironically enough, "Verity" is unlikely to be her real name and is probably a pseudonym. She was a member of a Martian sub-cult which interpreted the Quest for Knowledge not merely as a search for truth, but an active crusade against falsehood, deception and deceit. Members of the sub-cult had labored to create not only evidence-weighing and conclusion-deriving cogitators and logic-engines, but also specialized auspices capable of detecting the physiological and neurological signs of lying in an unaugmented human. She herself had refined these sensors, integrating them into her own augmented body together with sophisticated algorithms imprinted on crystalline circuits which left her unable to lie or be lied to.
When the God-Emperor came to Mars seeking alliance the Mechanicum recognized and venerated Him as the long-awaited Omnissiah. Verity accompanied her master to the signing of the Treaty of Olympus Mons and there begged the Emperor she might accompany Him on the Great Crusade to bring truth to the galaxy. Surprising everyone, the Emperor named her to His entourage and took her with Him.
