Hospitalière
A hospitalière is a Daughter of Verity trained and serving as a medical professional. While many Daughters have some form of medical training (and most if not all have enough first-aid to dress wounds and staunch bleeding) the hospitalières are highly-trained professionals who perform the duties fulfilled by members of the Orders Hospitalier for the Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas. Because of the Daughters' unique relationship with the Adepta Sororitas and the rest of the Adeptus Ministorum the Orders Hospitalier do not work with them.
Selection and Training
Potential hospitalières are identified during Novitiate or even Postulancy - while natural aptitude and intelligence are valued, compassion and patience are what the Pedagogues Militant look most intently for. The hospitalières do not merely serve as combat-medics for the Daughters, but also in the hospitals, clinics and hospices for the impoverished workers of the 'Dust Zone. Hospitalières-in-training begin by learning the basics of nursing, wound-dressing and administration of pharmaceuticals via hands-on training under more experienced medical staff. Formal education in diagnostics, anatomy, surgery, psychology and more occurs in classroom settings. The pedagogues militant make no allowances for would-be hospitalières and require them to achieve all academic, spiritual and physical milestones and achieve the same grades as other Postulants or Novices - trainee hospitalières quickly become somewhat isolated from their fellow Sisters, as we as appreciating recaff or other stimulants. Most hospitalières can sleep anywhere, anytime.
