Magnetic dart guns have been in use in the Cluster Islands since the technology was first developed in the 15th Volcanic century. Ammunition for those weapons usually ranges from thin darts meant to penetrate, to spherical pellets meant to irritate. In 2019 Kezlaf the Uniter invented a new kind of ammunition, the spray dart, designed specifically to inflict suffering upon its target.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The tip of the dart has six to eight sharp-bladed wings folded inside, and a contact switch between the nose and the shaft. When the dart penetrates a victim, the switch releases the wings. This slows down the dart, often stopping it before it can reach vital organs, slices up surrounding tissue, and makes it impossible to remove the dart cleanly, resulting most commonly in death by loss of blood.

History

Kezlaf had been working on the concept of the spray dart for several years before he created the first prototype.  Once he had perfected it, he started manufacturing them on Mraydor and distributed them to the One Guard by the thousands.  The darts were effective in suppressing resistance.  The last conflict in which spray darts played a significant part was the Galternene Overthrow of 2041 Vol.

Significance

Kezlaf enjoyed the sensation of vicarious pain. He also had very low regard, if not outright contempt, for those unable to manipulate water. The spray dart was one of the more gruesome tools he employed as a means of controlling the public through fear.

After the Dissolution of the Unity in 2040 Vol, the new Allied Isles requested that all surplus spray darts should be destroyed. Most have since been collected and eliminated, but because so many were made, it is impossible to know what percentage have been accounted for. It's very likely that the Dregs still have a stockpile.
