Cluisha (/'klu:ʃə/)

Even more than a hundred years after his death, Cluisha is a legend among Aktergean lumber miners. It is almost unheard of for an off-islander to stay on Aktergea more than a few months, let alone for the forty years he spent there.  During his life at Third Wedge Camp he proved himself alert and quick-thinking, and an asset in any emergency.   By his own admission, Cluisha was well-traveled. Why he lived out the rest of his life as a lumber miner on Aktergea is anyone's guess. Whether he was trying to shed an unwanted reputation, escape the consequences of past mistakes, or just find peace after a lifetime of adventure, he ended up in the right place.  Aktergeans tend not to ask personal questions, especially of those who have more than proven their worth.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

When asked where he was from, Cluisha always laughed and answered "Everywhere!"  Most likely he never intended to stay in Offcut as long as he did, but the pay is good, even on the supply side.  He held the same position in the warehouses for two years, which surprised the camp provisioners, who weren't accustomed to seeing the same supplier every time they went back.  It may be that he came for the money but stayed for the love--a casual flirtation with one of the Thirds became serious enough that he left the warehouse to join the logging camp.

Employment

Cluisha arrived on Aktergea as a spare hand on a freighter crew. He worked in the supply warehouses in Offcut, then joined Third Wedge Camp as a youth supervisor. He "graduated" to cut work after several years, and thereafter rotated between aerial and ground work.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The list is long. While at the warehouse, he once pushed a co-worker out of the way of a shelf collapse, and another time found a clogged pump just in time to prevent serious flooding. As the logging camp's youth supervisor he took a kind but firm stance on taking safety precautions, preventing multiple incidents that would have resulted in serious injuries. Cluisha volunteered for every inter-camp rescue operation, and led the evacuation during the 1937 Vol eruption warning. Perhaps his most selfless act was deflecting a keet that was jumping toward someone else. After that one he admitted it had been a dumb thing to do, but would probably do it again if he had to.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Cluisha was a skilled storyteller. Whether true or not, his tales grabbed the attention of young and old. He knew how to draw a laugh or a gasp, and how to keep an audience guessing. Many of his stories are still passed down, and it's become traditional in Third Wedge Camp to end a story the way he did:
"Maybe I saw it, maybe I heard it. Either way, now you know it."
