Session #30

General Summary

A man that Sih'Teel  identified as John entered town and whispered some information to him. Sih’teel looked uncharacteristically upset after hearing the news, and he turned and slipped out of the town, leaving the group to wander about town for a while.

The two guards at the settlement’s gates stirred as a traveler emerged from the forest’s shadow. An armored figure approached the gates, spoke to the guards, and then entered Beyonder's Blades. Breaker then found Mo and Sirkel  and asked what they’d been up to. He berated them for wandering off, and they gave weird stories as excuses of their absence. Tobeon strode up and let everyone know that attendance to the town meeting is required for everyone present. He also reminded everyone about the 200 person fire limit for the newly built town hall.

Meanwhile, Tidran  visited the baker Samantha’s house and purchased a loaf of bread for his quiet sister Cassandra. At the library, Mo joined Cassandra, followed closely by Breaker and Sirkel. Sirkel handed Cassandra a biscuit, but a rough comment from Breaker caused Cassandra to withdraw into the corner and pull her hood low over her face. Tidran entered the library with food and rebuked the group. A woman wielding an axe called Nilsa arrived and warned the group to behave and not make a mess in the library. Breaker left early for the meeting for some peace and quiet, but Mo followed him anyway.

Once evening arrived, the rest of the group joined Breaker and Mo in the new town hall building.

As the meeting began, Ephyra, Kae, and Spenca talked about how well the settlement is doing. They reminded everyone about the important iron trade route that runs through the settlement.

An old man got up and asked for help finding a pet Shawnu, but his wife shushed him and explained it’s been dead for a long time.

Petra the merchant asked for help for escorts for caravans.

Two miners, Star Browder and Hanna Kenyon, asked for help with their mine due to cave-ins and odd sounds they had heard deep in the mine.

Someone in the meeting mentioned the town dump being nasty and needing cleaning. He also claimed to have seen some of the trash moving, but the rest of the townsfolk laughed at the suggestion.

Once the meeting ended, Breaker approached Petra and talked to him about the caravan escort job but was not satisfied with the promised pay. Kae sidled up to Breaker and explained that any help protecting the trade routes helped the settlement as well, and he promised the settlement would raise the payment level. Breaker agreed.

Tidran, Cassandra, and Sirkel decided to accept the Browder and Kenyon’s job of inspecting the mine, but Mo thought the job sounded too dirty, and she reluctantly joined Breaker and Dante to help escort the caravan of aneens.

Decisions made, the group milled out of the town hall and into the cool night air. Toby approached the group and reminded them to behave and keep their weapons sheathed while in the town. Breaker asked him if there was a bounty board or any wanted persons in the area, and Toby explained that very few criminals had graced his new jail so far.

The sun broke over the (mountains west of Beyonder’s Blades) and found the merchant escort on a narrow road in the forest several miles from the town. The road was well maintained at first, but as the day wore on, the road became muddy and rough. The escort party saw nothing out of the ordinary until the late afternoon.

Suddenly, two strange creatures bounded out of the cover of the forest. Petra identified them as vapes, extremely thin creatures that are virtually invisible when facing their prey. After a quick combat, the escorters killed the vape and gained a valuable cypher.

Meanwhile, Tidran’s group investigated the mines and found a suspicious cave in which it looked like someone had tried to sabotage the mine. After clearing the rubble, the party ventured further in and found the Syzygy Ghouls. As it turns out the Syzygy Ghouls were simply trying to protect their nearby yudterim, (a library of sorts with the books made from the skin of the dead and containing all the knowledge of the dead the ghouls have consumed). The Syzygy Ghouls feared an encroachment from Caffa (both adults and larva), an underground insect which multiplied quickly and would eat anything moving.

After some back and forth, the group agreed to help the Syzygy Ghouls eliminate the Caffa threat. The party went to a point in the tunnels where the Caffa's chittering sounds were loudest, dug to the locate the Caffa. They were able to persuade one of the ghouls to aid them in combat. The group then successfully eliminated the Caffa, and the ghouls promised to set the group up for a tour of their yudterim so Cassandra could do some genealogical research.
