Syzygy Ghoul

These abhumans have as little coloring as the dead they feed upon, and they spend almost as much time beneath the ground as corpses. But syzygy ghouls are very much alive. Their bodies are hairless and so porcelain-smooth that their faces are sometimes mistaken for emotionless masks. Syzygy ghouls come to the surface at night to gather humanoid remains or steal those recently interred from their graves.

These abhumans are known in various places as “eaters,” “undertakers,” and “the Night Singers,” the latter due to the dirgelike songs they sing while they gather less-than-fresh meat. The ghouls claim to hold dominion over the remains of all humans and abhumans, according to ancient custom, even if they only sometimes assert that privilege. After all, not every dead body contains information the syzygy ghouls deem valuable, and it’s hard to be everywhere at once. The ghouls are said to eat the dead they gather and to know what any of their past meals knew.

Syzygy ghouls can see in the dark. They’re blind in full daylight, but those who travel to the surface carry oddities that cover their eyes, allowing them to see without penalty in full sunlight.
