Mathrafal
Mathrafal is one of the kingdoms on the island of Ynys. Located on the southwestern coast of the island, Mathrafal is a land of rugged hills and rolling plains, with deep forests and winding rivers.
The people of Mathrafal, known as the Ynyswr, are descended from one of the ancient peoples who inhabited Ynys long before the Clarati arrived. The Ynyswr are a proud and independent people, fiercely loyal to their king and their way of life.
The Ynyswr are a people of bards and storytellers, and their music and poetry are renowned throughout Ynys. They are also skilled horsemen and hunters, and many of the kingdom's young men aspire to become knights and warriors.
Despite their martial traditions, the Ynyswr are a peaceful people at heart, and they have long avoided involvement in the conflicts that have wracked Ynys for centuries. However, with the rise of neighboring kingdoms and the constant shifting of alliances, Mathrafal has been forced to take a more active role in the politics of the island.
Under the current ruler, King Owain ap Cynfyn, Mathrafal has enjoyed a period of relative peace and prosperity. King Owain is a wise and just ruler, loved by his people for his fairness and his commitment to the well-being of his kingdom. He has strengthened Mathrafal's alliances with neighboring kingdoms, and has been careful to avoid involvement in the more brutal conflicts that have plagued Ynys in recent years.
Mathrafal is a kingdom with many challenges. Its borders are constantly threatened by raiders from the neighboring kingdom of Cunedda, and the Ynyswr must always be on their guard against these fierce and unpredictable warriors. In addition, the kingdom is facing a growing threat from the kingdom of Dumnonia in the southwest, which seeks to expand his own influence across the island.
To face these challenges, King Owain has been working to strengthen his kingdom's defenses and to build alliances with other nearby kingdoms. He has also called on the Ynyswr to be vigilant and to stand together in the face of these threats.
Structure
The kingdom of Mathrafal is a loosely organized feudal state, with power and authority vested in the hands of the ruling noble family. The king is the ultimate authority in the land, but his power is tempered by the influence of his lords and vassals, who control their own territories and armies. The kingdom is divided into several smaller administrative units known as cantrefs, each of which is governed by a lord or lady appointed by the king.
History
The history of Mathrafal is closely intertwined with that of Ynys itself. The kingdom was founded by the Ynyswr people, who established their own petty kingdoms in the wake of the fall of Sange. Over the centuries, Mathrafal grew in power and influence, becoming one of the more important kingdoms on the island despite its size.
In the aftermath of the Age of Warlocks, Mathrafal emerged as one of the stronger and more unified kingdoms under the rule of the House of Cynfyn. The kingdom has since enjoyed a period of relative peace and prosperity, although it has faced several challenges from neighboring kingdoms and factions. The House of Cynfyn has proven to be a strong and capable ruling family, and its lords and vassals are fiercely loyal to the king.
By strength and cunning, we shall endure
