Lawa ng Kaliwang Kulo is a captivating low-lying basin that rests at an elevation of -3 feet below sea level. It is a unique geological formation characterized by a serene, sprawling lake surrounded by lush vegetation and towering trees. The name "Kaliwang Kulo" originates from a local folktale, which tells the tale of an ancient volcanic eruption that occurred in the region. According to the legend, the volcano's immense heat caused the ground to sink, forming a depression resembling a giant cauldron. The swirling steam and gases from the volcano during the eruption inspired the name "Kaliwang Kulo."
