Basic information
The kingdom of the Heartlands is ruled by the Mapleheart family and they are one of the great powers in the Valley. The people of this kingdom produce most of food for the other kingdoms of the valley and play an important role in The Coalition. Castanea is their capital and the kingdom is broken up into 3 provinces (The Eastern Lands, The Rolling Hills and The Mountain Doorstep). Wallace MapleHeart has ruled these lands as king ever since their creation. Their influence spans the north western ranges of the Valley, from the forests west of Castanea all the way to where Shadow Lands begin. The Maplehearts are farmers and caretakers at their core. Almost a third of their dominion is covered is farmlands and lush hilltops, and almost half their population is somehow connected to agricultural activity.
The Maplehearts are known as a warm and goodhearted people. If you swear not to do harm, a Mapleheart household will always have a cup of soup ready for you. They are fiercely loyal, but also stubborn to their core. Every man or woman will stop at nothing to come to the aid of a fellow Mapleheart in need.

Power Structure
The Heartlands are ruled by the Mapleheart Family. Wallace Mapleheart remains the king, but the last few years more and more responsibilities have been taken up by his son Rodon Mapleheart.
Because Rodon is mostly preoccupied with big picture affairs, his younger brother, James, has taken up governorship of Castanea. Avianna Truesight (Rodons' aunt and Wallace his sister in law) rules over Hemlock area and Cornus is controlled by one of Wallace his most trusted generals.

History
The Mapleheart kingdom rose from the ashes of a Cinder District. But they were able to win their independence in the aftermath of the First Long Dark. Wallace MapleHeart and the survivors of his 7th division had become local heroes and leveraged their popularity and heavily weakened position of the Emberborn to achieve independence.
